Neat Receipts: A Must Have Tool For Every Realtor

I consider myself a pretty organized person.  However, between all the business related receipts and business cards I collect each month, my organized system can fail me occasionally.

Most of us keep those business receipts tucked away until time allows us to organize them into necessary categories for tax time. And who hasn't found a few receipts faded and/or torn?

Business cards are another stack I try to attack and organize when time allows. I just returned from Blog World 2008 and with the number of business cards I brought back with me, they'll need a new Rolodex of their own!

Neat Receipts to the Rescue:

Neat Receipts is a software and a handy scanner that can help organize and simplify your life. You
can scan all your receipts, bills, and business cards into your PC while Neat Receipts stores everything in an appropriate folder on your PC.

All those business cards that are fading can now be scanned and stored in Outlook or ACT and later can even be exported to your mobile phones.

"NEAT Receipts is the ultimate tool to manage your business and personal finances. It scans, reads and organizes your receipts, bills, business cards and more - then stores everything in a database on your PC. Get ready for an organized, digital life!"

The price of this nifty tool: $149.95 for Neat Receipts Version 3.0

Where can you purchase Neat Receipts?

Lynda, It was a pleasure seeing you and spending time with you.

Bill, I found this product before Vegas. This is "Mine". :0)

Mary, That was cute.

Sindee, Of course, I tend to keep the receipts anyways. However, this tool makes it really easy to read the receipt latter during tax season.

Gary, Don't forget the business cards.

I ordered my last night based on your recommendation Mana - thank you!  Can't wait to get it so I can scan all my REBLogWorld bus. cards.  I'm still having a hard time understanding how it organizes  scanned items into files, but I guess, I'll just have to play with it.

Last year at tax time I looked at my Running Shoe Box full of receipts and just tossed them.  Figure I might of missed out on a few hundred dollars worth of deductions but just didn't want to spend the time tallying a total.  Most of the time I use my credit card so I get reward points and then itemize the expenses each month in Quicken when I pay the bill.  Looks like a neat little toy but I think I'd get Tee'd Off feeding my crumbled slips into the machine.

What a fantastic idea! I love it.  So many receipts fade over time. This is a must have after looking at the pile of receipts in the cubby hold that need to be sorted.

He travels about 85% of the time and this is a lifesaver for him... Great post Mana and Congratulations on the feature and the little gold star!

Hi Mana - Love the idea for business cards. I've got a couple of stacks that I really need to get organized. This also has me thinking ... with so many people using iPhones, Blackberries, etc. why are we still handing out so many paper business cards?

I bought this at the suggestion of my accountant! It's a GREAT tool, the only drawback is it's SO time consuming if you're like me....and wait til you have a pile of receipts to scan in!

Great advice!

Darn, but a great tool anyway. I have to debate in my heard, would I use it?  You gather so many cards at events, guess I could have my assistant do it for me, like she does the cards. Did you use it on outlook or act?

This sounds like a great way to get organized.  I'll have to check it out.  I'm wondering how it's differet from just scanning and storing them yourself.

Thanks for sharing Mana.  We have one of these at our office that we use for organizing Business cards and it's great!  A big time saver for us, since we collect business cards during our classes and then give everyone a copy for networking purposes. Now we just scan them through and print out a nice organized data sheet.  Love it!

Hi Mana, I love that listing you have for $3.9 Million; wow!

I am an accountant by trade, real estate agent by desire....so unfortunately for me I get too much pleasure out of stapling the receipts to the monthly VISA bill each month and logging it on my spreadsheet.  Some habits are just too hard to break!  :-)

How fast does it scan?  I've been thinking of buying the same high speed scanner my accountant uses to scan in my tax documents.  His is more expensive, but super fast.  I don't have the patience for a scanner that isn't quick.  Thanks.

Cindy - Holy smokes!   You don't use QuickBooks?

6:03pm • #56

Mana, looks like a wonderful tool.  I have heard of scanning things before and there have been products that I looked at and was not impressed with, but this looks like it would work well.

Gail...I don't use Quickbooks, but my Excel is a workbook and has drop down boxes, figures taxes based on formula's, etc...so probably functions close to the same.  Did I mention I'm old and my habits die hard???

I too am torn about this device... I use a separate ATM account for all business functions so I capture in the detail rpting MOST but not all of my expenses... I bet the expenses I miss each year would easily pay for the device in the first month or so...

Gail, Is not the fastest scanner out there, but it's not extremely slow. The size of a business card or a receipt is not as long as a whole document.

Everyone,If you decide to buy this tool, best of luck.

Has any realtor used www.Shoeboxed.com for their receipts?

Its like this scanner, but they scan for you and put the data into their application. Its like having a personal assistant help you keep all your receipts and expenses organized automatically

Shoeboxed.com has a free, do it yourself account where you upload receipts yourself (can use any scanner). OR they will scan your receipts for you if you send them in using your own or their prepaid envelopes.
