As I sit hear listening to Bernanke testify to the Congress, I found myself talking (admittedly, rather loudly at times) to a TV.  It occurred to me that maybe my representatives in Congress needed to hear what I have to say.  I'm sure many of you out there have very strong feelings about the current state of our economy, what got us there, and most important, how do we dig ourselves out of this crater we find ourselves in.  I'll spare you my thoughts on this, but I hope you won't spare your government representatives.  Take action, call or email them today.  Here's a website where you can get a phone number, or send them an email http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/

Pat - We've got to stay involved and make sure our voices are heard.  Thanks for staying involved!

Tina - You're welcome.  I hope you find the time to send a note to your representative.  It's so important.

Michael - I agreee.  However, maybe not great to attach that to the current legislation being proposed?

I agree... now is a great time to let them know our thoughts. I hope you don't mind the link, but here's a very good post from the consumerist website, it's a tutorial on how to effectively write to congress:

Hey, Hope. I have been writing and emailing my representatives and I can say that so far they have done a decent job in getting back to me. Thanks for sharing and getting the word out, Jim

You're right, I've been thinking that now is the time to introduce myself to my Congressperson. Thanks for the tip!

I write my legislative representatives the first Saturday of each month. Depending on the breadth of my concerns, I'll send my letter, and copies as relevant, to:

  • City councilmembers
  • County supervisors
  • State senators and representatives
  • U.S. senators and representatives
  • Other officials as might relevant, such as the President of the U.S., Governor of California, Homeland Security Chief, etc.

Guess who are the only people I ever get a response from? My two liberal U.S. Senators from California, Boxer and Feinstein. Guess who I vote for each time they are running for office? Yep. But they don't know that unless they now read this blog comment. I'm an American, not a Republican, Democrat, or Independent. Just an American.
