Last night I went to a sneak preview of the new DreamWorks movie, Eagle Eye. The movie actually opens this weekend and if you are in the mood for a fast paced suspense thriller, this is the movie for you!
This movie gives a frightening look at the pervasiveness of technology in our lives. This issue has been examined in many past movies ranging from 2001: A Space Odyssey to I,Robot. This movie puts a modern day twist on this premise using controversial provisions of the Patriot Act and the revelations of US government wiretapping of domestic calls without warrants. Depending on your particular political proclivities, you may either like or dislike the movie right from the beginning. If however, you can just watch this film as an entertaining action flick, you will probably enjoy it.
Shia Labeouf and Michelle Monaghan both give excellent performances as pawns in this edge of your seat movie. The seemingly random pairing of these two by the voice on the phone is a nagging question that is not answered until close to the end of the film. Throw in Michael Chiklis as Secretary of Defense Callister and agents Thomas Morgan, played by Billy Bob Thornton, and Zoe Perez, played by Rosario Dawson, and you have some impressive star power.
I really think this will be a huge box office draw this weekend. If you are looking for a fast paced movie, this would definitely be the one to see. I sat in about the eighth row and perhaps because the action was so fast, there did seem to be some blurring on the screen so I would recommend sitting further back if you can. This movie is Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action and violence, and for language.
