The first of 3 Presidential Debates will be held tomorrow evening and yet McCain seems to come across as a man that can only do one thing at a time.  We've already had 8 years of a President who can't think "Outside the Box".   To be a President, you have to MULTI-TASK and not let one thing overcome another.

I think in the absence of Presidential candidate Senator McCain, then Governor Sarah Palin should sit in for the debate and debate Senator Barack O'Bama.  I think that McCain is trying to get out of the debate, because he can't handle debating and can only handle talking off the teleprop, or speaking to a small selected group of people.  Let's STOP protecting both of the Republican candidates, let's hear McCain & Palin speak!  If the Republican party is saying she is ready to be Commander-in-Chief should something happen to McCain, then let's have them prove it to us.  Otherwise, we deserve what we get...

If Obama is ready to be president he should be back in Washington trying to help with a reolution to this state of affairs our country is in, not making false statement on how we got here.

I think Barack Hussein Obama should debate Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. The last couple of days Barack has had to take Joe to the woodshed for some of the things he said which were 180 degrees away from Obama's positions.

Obama and McCain are both Senators being paid $160,000/year to come up with solutions to the country's problems. Not to endlessly campaign for president. Get your asses back to Washington, fix the problem and than debate. But that's just my opinion.

Hi Karen,  With modern technology and all of the people that are working for McCain & O'Bama, both can be kept informed on any new progresses with the Senate.  Ask the question; Are they delaying the Election due to this crisis?   It's a digital world now.....  ;>)

Hi Richard,  Independent thinking is not a "bad thing", it shows that both can think "OUTSIDE THE BOX", that they aren't being pulled by "puppet strings" like Palin has had these last few weeks, when the media can't interview or sit in during her meetings with other international leaders.  ;>)

Ann-Marie One thing for certain. this would be the debate ALL of America would Drop Everything to watch.  She couldn't even answer questions posed to her by Katic Couric about what has Mccain done in the past 26 years. She is Strong about Alaska but dumbfounded when it comes to the lower 48. I am completely amazed that people in te lower 48 are not concerned with this fact.

Ann-Marie: Just a data point on your "Independent Thinker", "Outside the Box Thinker", from the Washington Post. In this, the 110th Congress, Sen. Joseph Biden, (D-DE) voted with the Democratic Party leadership 96.6% of the time out of 445 votes. Only three other Democratic Senators voted with their leadership higher than Joe's percentage.

Everybody in Washington has puppet strings...the tailors automatically build them into the suits.

Hi John,  I need and want a president and vice president who can think for themselves.  I'm tired of watching my country COLLAPSE....

Hi Richard,  We as a people, have to start putting our feet down and tell the candidates that we need "THINKERS".  This is how we got in this mess, by relying on the "Status Quo" and ignoring all of the signs in front of our faces...  While other countries were quietly getting ahead, we were sliding down a water slide quickly and quietly.  What a mess.....

Ann-Marie, Do these people REALLY believe under the current economic crisis that McCain can keep their taxes down even if he really wanted to. I am tired of being bullied by the Republicans. I'd rather take my chances with Obama than KNOWING if I vote McCain/Palin they clearly don't know what they are talking about  MOST of the time.

I HOPE for CHANGE

Ann-Marie,  I don't think that I could listen to Palin speak for more than ten minutes anyway. At that point in time she would have exhausted her precanned material and I would have a headache from her bloviating.

You know it's funny - you try to come off as all-knowing, but you seem not to know what the debate is supposed to be about. It's foreign policy!! That is the only subject on the table. And it was McCain that wanted ten debates - unfortunately the Messiah ran away from that because there wouldn't have been a teleprompter!!

Actually, McCain does better in a non-scripted environment, that's why Obama refused to do any townhall formats. McCain wanted to debate Obama everyweek, including townhall formats and the usual phony debate format.

In regard to Obama debating Palin, that would not be a win-win situation for him. In fact, it would be a big risk. I Palin even broke even it would be a big loss for Obama. Besides that, why would a presidential candidate debate a VP candidate?

HaHaHa. Obama is 100 times more charismatic than McCain. An empty suit? You think McCain is any better. Maverick my ass. He changed from a man with his own ideas into a company shill in 2000. He in no way resembles the man who earned that name. Every Conservative on here hated his guts during the primaries. It cracks me up to see tha backtracking now.

Hi Mike,  Long time no hear...  Have you seen the circus of media around Palin lately.  The Republicans won't allow her to speak, that's why the media can't get to her during the International meetings.  To answer your question of "Why would a presidential candidate debate a VP candidate?   If McCain happens to get ill and die in office, then Palin would have to take over.  Wouldn't you like to know if she has a "brain"  and knows when to use it?  If I'm going to elect someone, I want to know that their VP can replace them, wouldn't you?   Plus, I would love to see an actual debate, to see how they ALL THINK...   ;>)

Hi Larry,  Why would O'Bama get smoked?  If I remember correctly McCain was the "C" student, but then again, so was G.W. Bush and O'Bama was the "A" student who earned his way at Harvard.   Who do you really think will get smoked?  ;>)

Hi Israel,  I AGREE!!  O'Bama has much more charisma then McCain, that's why I believe McCain "jumped out" of the debate....  ;>)

Obama is not running against Palin, he is running against McCain, those are the ones that should be debating.

And you are wrong on McCain dropping out because of lack of charisma.

How did you find out Obama was an A student, his transcripts have not been released? But it is very good to know that one of your qualifications for a president is a glib talker (that is if he has a teleprompter).

I guess Obama didn't want to go back to Washington and actually do the job he is being paid for. Voting on a bill that will change a nation. I guess we should call him if we need him. He certainly can vote present as he did over 100 times before. No big deal. Nothing new here. Obama has it under control, everyone is listening to him. The wisdom is flowing, people are bowing down, change is here. But nothing he can do, oh vote you say? No, he needs your vote, so he can change things for you.

What are you talking about, he was at the White House with McCain today!!!  This is the time for a "level headed" LEADER to not look stressed out (like McCain looked today at the White House) and use Higher Order Thinking Skills to reason through this financial crisis.  It's now the time to THINK before we act, instead of acting before we think!

Think before we act. Is that like Barnie Frank running out of the room angry, when he was one fo the very people along with Chuck Schumer, Christopher Dodd and Bill Clinton and the very Barak Obama and his ACORN executives who actually forced the very banks to give loans to people who couldn't buy a pair of shoes on credit. These are the ones you are saying are using their Higher Order Thinking Skills. While John McCain warned about things to come. Who has the higher thinking skills. Get the facts straight, do some homework before you think your burning the midnight oil with Obama. With all their brains as were dynamite, Frank, Clinton, Schumer, Dodd, and the messiah Obama wouldn't  have enough to blow their collective noses.

Anne-Marie, Some FACTS on Obama in response to Nicholas.

Obama  was magnacum laude in Harvard Law School, meaning he was in the top 10% of his class, and he was president of Harvard Law Review, the highest honor for a Harvard Law graduate He graduated Harvard magna cum laude. This was one honor you unquestionably had to earn. It's a very impressive feat. Back in Obama's days at Harvard, more than 50 percent of the class graduated cum laude, a fact that made graduating "with honors" a meaningless accomplishment. But graduating magna was  different . Barack Obama graduated right near the top of his law school class.

The people that Obama so thoroughly charmed generally weren't the charm-prone types. I say the following as a well known Republican partisan--the fact that his classmates so universally held him in the highest regard suggests that Barack Obama may truly be a special person.

Mr. Obama was elected after a meeting of the review's 80 editors that convened Sunday and lasted until early this morning, a participant said.

The president of the Law Review was the student with the highest academic rank. Among these were Elliot L. Richardson, the former Attorney General, and Irwin Griswold, a dean of the Harvard Law School and Solicitor General under Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard M. Nixon.

That is one of the most NARROW MINDED comment I have ever read on this site and there have been some dossiers.

Hi Hugh,   Most people who have attended university and were successful, know that it's okay to disagree with your opponent, since that gives you skills to "think outside the box".  A VP shouldn't have to be a "PARROT" of your thinking.  A VP should be able to bring analytical skills into the White House.  That what would make a FANTASTIC combination, since two different heads are better than one.  After all isn't that the reason we have a VP, to bring another perspective into the White House?

Karen,  Nicholas has repeatedly made remarks insinuating how Obama has NO BRAINS":

"With all their brains as were dynamite, Frank, Clinton, Schumer, Dodd, and the messiah Obama wouldn't  have enough to blow their collective noses."

My comment was in opposition to how stupid he seems to think Obama is. I do not see anyone presenting proof that he is too stupid or wouldn't have enough brains to blow his nose.

All they keep asserting his Obama is a Baby killer (as though he is the only Pro-Choice person on the planet.

That he knows some people that have "bad" histories as I am certain if you live long enough everyone knows someone that has or is spending time in jail or done "bad" things in their lives.

And that his preacher is radical in his views against whites mistreating Blacks and "damns" America for that reason. Very understandable.

Where is the PROOF HE HAS NO BRAINS?

Bush was a C student as was McCain. Conservatives don't like to admit anybody is smarter than they are and they vote accordingly.

Hi Nicholas,

Bashing Women won't get you anywhere....  But of course you know that or do you?

There is nothing wrong with some "Smarts", we wouldn't be in this predicament if Bush had any "BRAINS".  The best brokers & real estate agents had brains and they used them to be very, very successful.

Once again, both McCain & Bush BOTH SAID A FEW WEEKS AGO, THE ECONOMY IS STRONG Why aren't you bashing them?  Apartly they got it ALL wrong......Stop thinking only on "party lines", a man named "O'Bama" might actually help get us out of this unfortunate predicament.  Most of the conservatives only think "he's not a bible lover" & he's culturally diversified due to his name. We were built on religious diversification, respect it and please don't make fun of people that have different names.   Guys times have CHANGED, and this is the 21st Century!!!  GROW UP!

We need the BEST LEADER NOW MORE THAN EVER....   VOTE SMART!!!

It seems to me that the people with the weakest arguments always resort to insults or sarcasm, such as referring to Obama as "the Messiah". I don't know of any Obama supporter who has ever characterized him as a messiah. Also the comment that "liberals hate America" is thoughtless and, honestly, lazy due to the lack of consideration it took to make that comment.

I have to say, when I first heard that McCain had suspended his campaign and was heading to Washington, it seemed "presidential". That was until I found out that the Obama campaign had contacted him about discussing the issue in a truly nonpartisan fashion. Instead McCain chose to grandstand by blindsiding Obama and making a unilateral statement that there would be no debate. It was a calculated political move.

Apparently at the White House meeting, McCain spoke for less than one minute.

No, Hugh, liberals do not "hate America". That is why Barney Frank and other "liberals" are working day and night to come up with a good solution to this mess. They could have just let the Bush Administration hang itself with its own rope, but they chose to do the best for the American public. Please think before you make insulting statements such as "liberals hate America". It is simple minded and simply untrue.

Nicholas, my Bible was interpreted by the Holy Spirit of God that lives inside of me and has never left or forsaken me since it came into my heart on Feb. 5, 1979 and filled me beyond measure or explanation with God's Holy Spirit and I would venture a guess that I have read it as many if not more times than you and spent eleven years with The Old and New Testament on audio tapes being played 24/7 in my home and during my sleep. I know that I have a personal relationship with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit and while you may attack me as to my political beliefs I find it were better for you to have a millstone hung about your neck and you were drown in the uttermost parts of the sea than to continue harming God's Children.

As for your Question  about Frank, Obama, Dodd, Rangel, Clinton and ACORN?

That has NOTHING to do with this post NOR it's comments I will read all the facts and get back to you even though it was asked Simply to Distract everyone from the debate that is taking place here.

All you will ever get out of them is " It is Clintons fault" or " The Liberals are responsible for all this ", blah, blah, blah. It is just this kind of finger pointing and deception that the American people are sick to death of. Basically everything that happened uder Bush's watch is blamed on Clinton. Par for the course.
