Like Tony would say, "They'rrrrrreeeeee Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreaaaaatttttt!"

Many would think I'm crazy. The purpose of business is to be profitable, right? But I think we have a larger obligation than simply looking at the dollars and cents at the bottom line. In the Real Estate and Lending business, there are clearly good apples and bad apples. Maybe one could say that is the case in any industry, but here is the difference....Real Estate is the largest decision that the average consumer will make in America. We have the power and choice to make it a pleasurable experience or a really bad nightmare! With that being said, when I see competitors of mine that are leading clients in the right direction and do great things in the communtiy, I think it's important to promote them and their business for the overall health of what we do. Word of mouth on false pretenses can kill a person's opportunity to succeed.

So, why do I promote competitors that are doing a great job in my own market?

A few things come to mind....

Badmouthing is not productive, reflects more on yourself than others and deterioates our industry.

Speaking high of other competitors shows the confidence you have in your own self and services.

The things we can learn from each other can help us to improve the service our clients receive. We have seen this power with Active Rain.

I agree, Scott!!  Good people deserve good word of mouth, and I can't believe it's going to hurt me in the long run to talk nice about anybody.  I don't want to get ahead by tearing anyone else down, I'd rather enjoy getting where I'm going with a smile on my face and no knives in my back!

I agree.  I noticed this a long time ago when I would go up against a friend for a listing.  Sometimes I won, sometimes I lost, but how could I speak badly of a friend.  If you extrapolate this line of thought, why should I talk bad about anyone?  My mama said, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything!"

Good Advice!

I agree Scott people in this business especially on the financing side of things love to edified. It actually results in referrals. Competition in this industry is fading becuase many loan officers are leaving the loan business due to the more stringent gudelines.

It never pays to cut down the other guy. All the Realtors on Salt Spring Island are great anyway.
