I don't know if you are religious or not, but if you are you should think about volunteering in your church, especially at the Welcome Center if your church has one.
Why? First of all, because the church is built on volunteers. They probably need your help. And volunteering is a good thing to do!
Secondly, because -with the right motives (meaning serving the church first), it is a great place to meet new people who are moving to your area. I'm not advocating using volunteering in the church as a business move, but rather using it as an opportunity to meet and connect with people. If you go into it with the idea that your volunteering first and perhaps making contact with some potential customers second then I think you've got a winner.
Granted this may be difficult for some to balance and it really comes down to motive, but if you put yourself into this position in order to help the church you will find that plenty of contact will come your way. It's kind of like an added bonus.
If you aren't religious try volunteering in a good organization like Habitat for Humanity or at your library or maybe with DHS. Again volunteering is good and it helps keep a good name for the Real Estate industry. Along the way you'll be spreading your good name, meeting lots of great folks and making contacts that will pay off.
Volunteering and/or community service will also give you a very good feeling at the end of the day.
