Today is Good Friday to those of us that observe it.  I had told my customers that I was taking the day off.  I had no intentions whatsoever to come into the office.  But here I am.  I received a call earlier from one of our lovely Realty World receptionists to tell me that I had gotten a package. I wasn't expecting anything so I asked her to tell me who it was from.  Cafepress?  I never heard of them but it intrigued me enough that I took the short drive to quell my curiosity.

I took the small package to my office and closed the door behind me.  I opened it...... and gasped!  It was a genuine collector's edition Codger mug!  Oh, how I've been wanting one of those!  I have to be honest and say that my initial reaction was "Oh, those Codgers!  Aren't they sweet?  Sending me a Codger mug."  But when I opened the paperwork enclosed, this is what I found:  "Heard you were eyeing one of those codger mugs.  I hope you enjoy it!  Sincerely, Jonathan W."

Oh my goodness!  A Raingod sent me a gift.  It's much more valuable to me than the cost of the mug.  Imagine that Jonathan somehow, somewhere saw one of my comments (did I make that many, I wonder?) and he was thoughtful enough to do something totally unexpected, and totally appreciated.  This seems to be how Active Rain works, by appreciating the members of their wonderful site, whether by unexpected gifts, a fabulous site that offers benefits beyond our wildest dreams, asking for input from us when they're considering changes, taking suggestions and requests from us when they're not, and just being all around nice guys. (I'm from NY, I use the term guys to mean both sexes).

This is my first year in real estate.  I left a full time job with full benefits 9 months ago to pursue a dream.  I haven't seen a check since August.  I only tell you this so you understand that I had not ordered the mug because I'm broke, not cheap.  Things have been a bit tight lately and I haven't indulged in little treats as often as I'd like to.  Jonathan's gesture came at a time when it means much more to me than he will ever know.  Ever.  I've been trying to keep my chin up and believe that I can make it but 8 months without a paycheck is a long time.  It's been taking it's toll on me.  But things are changing.  I see a light at the end of the tunnel.  I want Jonathan to know that sometimes the smallest of gestures is the biggest of gifts.

Jonathan, you have a big heart.  And I thank you from the very bottom of mine.  The mug is more beautiful than I imagined.  I will treasure it always.  I was going to just send a private thank you.  But I want all Active Rainers to know, if they're not aware of it already, how Active Rain rocks!

See Maggie - THAT's what I'm talking about!  Telling everyone about our North/South Agreement - so did we decide where the boundary line is??   : )

Looking through all of these comments, it's a real testament to the spirit of this community that even though we're rapidly approaching 25,000 members, there are so many strong one-to-one connections. What a class act by Jonathan to someone very deserving! I'm sure it won't be long until we're reading the post about your first deal. Go get 'em!

Chris - me, wonderful?  Now, that's a nice compliment to start the day with.  Thank you so much!

Ines - your comment tells me you were reading all the way through.  That wasn't in my reply to you.  lol!  As for that agreement, as long as you don't give me Hialeah, I'm good ::wink, wink::  It's a joke guys!  I don't want any Hialeahns (Ines, is that a word?) taking insult.

Laurie - thank you!  I do have 5 listings now so I'm on my way.  More importantly, I'm now working with some buyers too.

John - the comment threads are actually where the community is built up.  I've noticed many thoughtful comments while reading in the Rain which led me to folk's blogs and subsequently subscribing as I liked what they had to say.  I have made some wonderful friends here in the Rain.  From your lips to God's ear on that deal thing, although technically it won't be my first.  I did my first closing while I was only working part-time and my second came a month after I went full-time.  That was the last time.  I've got my bank account ready for the next one!

Maggie, HANG IN THERE!! Things are slowing changing girl! You're so right about Jonathon!! He is a very thoughtful and caring person. He doesn't often make his presence known, until the phone rings or in your case the package arrives. I've had the good fortune of being on the receiving end of one of his phone calls, and what a pleasent surprise that was!

Jonathon, Thanks from me too for putting a smile on our Maggies face!

As far as our Florida Market goes? Things are picking up, we may not see the zest we did 2 or 3 yrs ago, but our showings are picking up and our phone's are ringing! Keep blogging, wearing that name tag and talking to the salespeople in BJ's! You're doing everything right! :)

I am awstruck.  This is amazing how this place works.  I am truly glad to be a part of this virtual community...that is obviously more, a real community.  I am new to this place and have been seeing the power of its worth.  I have been reading and reading more and more blogs to understand what makes this place tick...obviously REAL people like Jonathan and Maggie are the real reason this is succuessful.  Maggie, hang in there, I would have never known you have been struggling this long.  You are so confident and bubbly, which I see in most sucessful agents (or at least the ones I would want to work with).  I too have struggled..(like most recently)  But I don't think I was as bubbly as you.   It will happen and when it does... look out.  You will be great.

Maggie - I understood exactly what you mean.  I called you my little sponge because you are always so enthusiastic about absorbing any idea you see here to help your business.

Lysa - that's so wonderful!  I can just see Jonathan with a Wheel of Fortune setup spinning and choosing the next recipient for one of his great phonecalls.  Actually, I am sure he doesn't choose randomly.  From the looks of the comments, he must make a deliberate effort to choose who he calls.  How fortunate for you.  And this market's been beating me up pretty good but I've never met a problem I couldn't tackle!

Bob - hi there!  Good to see you here.  This community has been a great big blessing to me, as I'm sure it has been to many others.  And it's not just about making contacts with clients (actually, I just got off the phone with someone who saw one of my comments on a mortgage blog and called me with a question.  When I found out she doesn't have a REALTOR I referred her to an Active Rainer in her county who can help her.  No referral fee!  It's not all about the money).  And my outlook on life has always been a positive one.  It's gotten me through some really tough times.  That, and the grace of God.  Thanks for your kind words.  Best of luck to you too!

Ines - you're so funny!  What do you think their mayor will think when he hears about our raffle?

Linda - hi again!  I liked it when you called me your little sponge.  Your little sponge I will always be.  You have so much to teach.  I will gladly listen and absorb.  =)

Ines - since I try not to stick my nose over there too much you had me second-guessing myself.  lol!  Now that I googled it, I can answer your question with confidence - yes, Hialeah has a mayor.  Now I'm going back to see if I can find out what the boundaries actually are.  I'm sure I'll be surprised.  =)

Ines - this is scary...the last press release on their site is dated 9/27/06.  Do you think it's possible that they ceased to exist and nobody told us?

Ines - forget this!  I spent 5 minutes searching and they make it impossible to find out their exact boundaries.  I wonder if this, in and of itself, means anything?  I'm leaving this topic alone now =)

Thesa - thanks so much for commenting and for your supportive words.  I think this rough patch will just make me appreciate the good-times-to-come even more!  Dreams are worth fighting for.  That's what I'm doing.  Thanks again!
