OOPS...

Home Inspector with Complete Home Inspections, Inc. TN Lic#050

As part of the inspection process for the State of Tennessee, we are required to test smoke detectors for functionality. Here in Davidson (Metro Nashville) and Williamson Counties, smoke alarms are to be wired in tandem so that an alarm in one area will sound throughout the entire system. We generally find that things work better when the electrician finishes the job...

Join my birthday alarm. It is fast painless and the best part of all, you will be helping me out.

This post is included in one of AR's newest groups Blogs Happen... . We are a friendly lot of misfits. Check us out and join the group. You will be glad you did...

Sure it may not be done, but look how clean everything is! Who needs functionality?

Too funny, I had an email sent to me once titled "Inspector's Worst Moments" that was so funny!  You guys could write a book or two.  You definately earn your money!

What, you want the wires connected to the smoke detector -- well, that's going to cost extra. :) ~Evelyn

If they aren't going to connect the wires they could have at least left the connection attached to the back of the smoke detector. When I had my apartments I was required by the fire marshal to do monthly inspections for functionality.

Oh my word. I can't even believe someone would not check that before they put the house on the market. That is so stupid. Luck for the buyer, you guys found it before they needed it.

Michael,  Nice catch.  I would hate to think of how many new construction homes that don't get an inspection do not have the smoke detectors wired correctly.

Is that important? With all the other smoke detectors in the house, what's one unconnected unit. Is bubba related to someone in the building inspector's office ???
