Do you hand out Business Cards anymore?

Recently, I am noticing more and more agents when they are viewing my listing they are not presenting a business card. Is this a new trend? I go thru about 1000 cards a month. I give them to everyone even other agents. You never know when you my need to contact me. I also save business cards. I can not remember everyone phone number like I used too. What is your take on this trend? Do agents not want to spend money on business cards? I will continue to give my cards out to everyone.

I have just been finding myself asking for Business Cards more and more.

I always leave a business card whenever I view a property. And I want a person to leave a business card if the real estate agent happens to view one of my listings. To me,I think it can help the real estate agent know who has viewed his listing and whether he needs to re implement a marketing plan for his listing especially if he hasn't gotten any offers from it yet.

Matt - Your on target, this is the permise of my thought here. I find alot of agents dont where name tags. So who are you? Who is your company or you not proud to be with them? I had a viewing just yesterday. The realtor did not want to give me her card. I know who she is and the company she works for but I may like to send an email for her suggestion on the listing. I am not doing this for fun. It just gets me mad, I dont know what some agents are thinking....

i think business cards are important. sure we can all load contacts int our PDAs but what about when technology fails us? Sure, you can back up contacts and stuff like that, but is there any harm in having a paper copy? Also, business cards are so cheap to design and print.

Just to validate your comment about "you never know"  -  I was asked for a referral in Boulder, CO.  I couldn't think of anyone off-hand and then I remembered that I has a business card from a Boulder Agent - she got the referral and the buy!  I hadn't spoken to her in 2 years but I keep a file of business cards.

I always leave a card when showing a home. More than once I have received calls from sellers who said I was the only agent to show their home. Home expired....Got the listing.

I leave cards when the property is occupied. I do not leave them when it is vacant. Supra records my entry. The other time I leave a card is when The home is held open.

this is a comment about your post, as well as a follow up reply to the comment you left me.

I completely agree with your post.  Although i am new to this business, and by no means a veteran agent.  However, i believe that passing business cards out is probably one of the cheapest, and most effective way of getting your name across.  Everyone i come in contact with is either a potential client, or at least a potential source for a referral.  I leave my card with my waiter/waitresses, dealers at the blackjack tables, and ever the check out person at the grocery store.  I also require all agents showing my listings to leave a card.  not just so i have it for contact reasons, but also so my clients know who's been in their house.  As far as the picture, i disagree with you.  When trying to become number one in a person's mind when it comes to real estate needs.  It's easier if they can remember an actual face rather than a name.  If you do choose to use a picture, i recommend you use the same picture on all your advertising.  that way you are promoting the same image, and it's less likely that people will remember you if they've seen the same picture in multiple places.

From a different perspective, as a home inspector, I always leave a card also.  I believe it is, more than anthing, a courtesy.  When I enter someone's home to do my work, I believe they should have the right to know who was there.  If they wish to call, that's okay too.

I am also having the same problem. I think the quality or realtors has changed over the years.

With this declining market, there will be a  cleaning up of the market and I think you will see a more quality Realtor on the other side.

I'm guilty of not leaving a card at every property I show, but I'm going to start.  It's just common courtesy.

Terci, yes this is just a reminder. It is important for us to network and sell all listing. I feel other agents are resources and not the enemy. 80% of all listing are sold by other agents. Thanks for your comment.

I don't feel leaving a card is necessary. We have sign-in sheets with  name, time, and phone number on the sheet. What more information do you need?

Cait, your correct. What about when you personally meet an agent on the street. Do you offer a business card for future reference, networking or broad casting a listing? This is more my point than we viewing a property.

Frank,

I, like you go through about 1000 cards a month. I give them out to everyone. When I do an inspection, I leave two at the house. I don't care if it is occupied or vacant. I leave two on the chance they may give ont to a friend. this is the cheapest marketing anyone can do.

Don, I am the same about a 1000 cards a month. Usually brings in a nice return for giving out cards. Qualify activity. Anything can happen when you give them out.
