NO DANCING ON THE DESKS PLEASE

By

The other morning I was in WaWa getting coffee and everyone seemed to be in a great mood.  (If you don't live near a WaWa envision Dunkin Doughnuts, 7-11 or maybe even Starbucks)  It seems that coffee brewing at home has lost it's favor or flavor :)  Most mornings I don't see this elevated mood in WaWa.  So either they used extra caffiene or it was the vibe!

There was a great song on - one of those infectious dance songs. (I can't remember the name right now - uggghhhhhh)  Everyone was smiling, several people were singing.  If you weren't singing you were unconsciously bopping a part of your body to the beat. It was making everyone contagiously happy. If the cameras were rolling WaWa would have had a fabulous commercial.  I enjoyed the emotional high so much that I thought Wow wouldn't it be great if we could create this atmosphere in my office.

Then I found that this article http://www.everydayhealth.com/alternative-health/mind-body-connection/tips/how-to-life-your-spirits-with-music.aspx?xid=nl_EverydayHealthEmotionalHealth_20080927 that backed up my unscientific study and thought okay this isn't as silly as it sounds :)  I have asked each of my agents for their two favorite songs.  One that gets their blood pumping and one that sends them into a relaxed state.  So far the response is great.  These songs will encompass our new playlist at my office.

You are more than welcome to use this idea in your office but you have to promise to post the most infectious songs.  And the experiment begins :)  Fun, fun, fun :) :) :)

Love the idea about the two favorite songs and an office playlist ... might have to just "borrow" that and do that at our office.  Had to chuckle, I "know" what a WaWa is! LOL Being a transplant here in Texas from Connecticut, I spent a lot of time at the NJ shoreline and Philadelphia area.

It's a great idea, Michelle.  But, why not dance on the table?

Thanks for the blog Michelle.  It reminded me of an organization I used to work at years ago.  Every morning one staff member did an announcement over the intercom system right before the doors opened.  The morning announcements were not scripted, just a general good morning and oh by the way it is ______________'s birthday.  This was followed by a song.  Through this I learned that music is very defining.  As an executive in this company, I had to be very careful about the songs I selected.  I tend to like classic rock and of course you know what the subject matter of many of these songs is!!!  It was interesting to listen to people's selection.  People you thought were conservative picked hip-hop and people you thought were wild picked Sinatra!!!!  Thanks again Michelle.

Sounds, smells, colors all play into how we feel.  Personally, I still like brewing my coffee at home. ~ Evelyn

Michelle, I love how you describe your morning coffee buying at Wawa...we don't have a Wawa...but any of our coffee shops offer that same energy....I think it goes with coffee....but I know I'm "rocking out" on my way to work each day and it gets my day jazzed....so it's true...cool idea!

Maybe everyone was just so happy that they could still afford to buy inflated priced coffee in this recession?

Thanks for the photo to make the connection for those of you who aren't familiar with what a WaWa is.  Here is the wiki info on the origination of the name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wawa_Food_Markets

Ed - I have been known to dance on the tables once in awhile :)  We also like to play "Thumper"when the awards dinners get a little boring.

Lewis - I am finding the song picks to be very interesting indeed.

Evelyn - will you move in with me?  I love the aroma but my domestic abilities are lacking.  For some reason my hubby says I just can't get it right - even when I buy the WaWa coffee grounds.

Jeanean - I love music to get my day going and I also enjoy the comedy station on XM.  I must look like such a fool laughing hysterically by myself in my car.  Oh well  :)

Ellie - Coffee is one of the "luxury" items that I ask my clients to forgo so that they can afford the extra $60 month to get the home of their dreams.
