Paul Newman recently passed away.
I was saddened when I first heard the news as I was when other greats from my past moved on. My first recollection of Paul Newman was "Cool Hand Luke." It seemed to be the rave at school and certain phrases seemed to be repeated frequently such as "We have a failure to communicate!" and others.
The "egg eating" contest was also a popular scene from this movie; and yes, there were impressionable kids who even tried that one!
There were other movies that we all remember that Paul Newman starred in and include the following:
- Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
- The Color of Money
- The Verdict
- .... And more!
Paul Newman had Ohio ties. He was born in Cleveland and raised in Shaker Heights, Ohio. He went to Kenyon College and acted in the Cleveland Playhouse. As well, he acted in local TV commercials.
Paul Newman accomplished what we all aspire to do. He made his mark in his industry and leaves a legacy that will go on for all time.
