Last week, I had the chance to take my family to go see Cheap Trick, Heart, and Journey at the Pavilion. Talk about a flash-back from the eighties. WOW! What really made this show and evening so special, were my kids getting to see some of the musical talents of bands and friends that my wife and I have grown up with over the years. Music and people that were/are a huge part of our lives, and that shaped our memories and future.
The evening was full of surprises for my kids, it was a night they'll never forget as long as they live!
Cheap Trick Opens the Show with Nothing but Their Classics
Heart Takes us Back Through Time and Down Memory Lane
Journey Takes us on the "Journey" of an Unforgettable Evening
After the show, Jonathan invited us backstage so the family could meet and greet the band. I can't even begin to tell you what an impact this had on our kids. Getting to meet him finally, along with Neal Schon, Arnel Pineda and Ross Valory was not only a dream come true for them, it was the most inspirational moment of their lives. You should have seen their faces. You could see the stars and dreams unfolding right in their eyes. Life for them this night, was much more than just a fantasy, it was surreal. I put together a photo collage so they can enjoy and remember this night forever. Hope you'll enjoy it too. :-)
These are some of the shots we were able to get from our seats. The sound was awesome and the performances were incredible, it was a night we're glad we didn't miss. Great seats too, 10 rows back.
We want to thank our friends from Heart, Cheap Trick and Journey for an unprecedented evening, and especially Jonathan Cain for making it all possible, and for making the entire concert experience spectacular from beginning to end. Our family had the best time ever, Thanks Again. :-) If you EVER get the chance to see Journey "Live", they are a MUST see. They are simply incredible. Arnel Pineda is every bit as good as Steve Perry or better, and their live performance is just sensational!
We're forever your fans and friends...Faithfully!
We have some awesome videos and audio recorded, that any of you are welcome to see and hear, so come on over to our place sometime, but I do respect the copyright laws and these fine musicians enough to avoid the temptation of posting them here on my Blog. (It's Killing me though ...LOL) Instead, I endorse and suggest you go out and buy Journey's newest CD "Revelation!" You won't be disappointed. :-)
Brad - awesome post. That sounds like a great time. I LOVE live music, and both of my daughters do as well. I have been backstage for a meet and greet with Queen with my daughter, and another time with Paul Rodgers. We also met Brian May at a book signing. We also met Gilby Clark when his daughter's band was playing. An experience like that really is surreal, and your kids will always remember it. Great time and photos, thanks for sharing!
Good Morning Brad. What a line up! Sounds like y'all had a great time ---and the pictures prove it! Going backstage to meet the band is so cool. Glad the kids enjoyed it. Rock on!
I have been waiting for this.... I can't wait to show my hubby.... I wish I could see the video OMG - awesome pics and something you and the kids will NEVER forget. Moments like this ... priceless. OH btw I found this post on TWITTER LOL so cool....Thanks for my morning music.
BRad - what a blast from the past. I've seen all of thes groups when they were in their 20's. I'm sure that they perform better now than ever. and additional 20 years of practice should make everyone better.
Wow. I just had a major flash back. How cool for you and your family to be able to enjoy an evening of good music and a backstage tour too. Think I'll go put on one of my Journey CD's now and pretend I was there.
Great post Brad, and what a memorable evening! Your kids will remember it for a lifetime.
I had the pleasure of seeing Journey at Day on the Green #2 back in the late 70's as they returned to the Bay Area after their first world tour. Absolutely awesome! But when I saw them again this year in Vegas, nothing had changed! Arnel Pineda is a sensational talent - one of the best voices in the business!
Thanks again!
Brad, what a great post and thank you for sharing it with us. There's nothing like live music and then to share it with your kids and have this kind of experience is simply amazing. There is just nothing better than creating these kind of memories that they will in turn learn to share with their families as they get older - they will find themselve saying "my mom and dad took us.." and they will want to create these experiences for their kids - talk about a legacy. ~Anne Marie
Great share - it would be great to capture the surprise on your children's face. My first thought is that - they like the same music you do?? I don't have kids but I always seem out of sync with my neices and nephews - although going back to meet the band would always be s special moment. Another question - how do you create the collages - you know me - always looking for more visual technology.
Brad - What an incredible experience! Three of the greats all in one place.
We saw Journey in Las Vegas in March. Even with Arnel as the "newcomer" their performance was outstanding! If I closed my eyes I couldn't tell that it was not the all original gang.
So glad you got to take the kids. Being such a musical family I'm sure this made an impact.
Brad- How cool is that: you got to go backstage! What exactly are you going to do to top that?!, LOL. Hopefully your kids know how special that was. The photobucket slide show was a neat feature. The Andersohns are a fine looking family:-)
David - I have been a fan of Journey and Neal Schon even before Journey, way back when he played guitar with Carlos Santana, back when he had that Big Ol afro. They are even better today than I remember way back then.
Sharon - you know exactly what I'm talking about then, seeing the looks in their eyes was everything to me. I will never forget it either. Love those kids and I fully support their musical dreams and aspirations. :-)
Scott - thanks, not sure what background picture you're referring too, you mean the one on my Blog? That's a collage I created of some of the members who subscribe to my Blog. Let me know if that's the one you were asking about. :-)
Kara - the kids really had the best time, my youngest one got a guitar pick from Neal Schon and we also got an autographed ticket from Arnel, he was a really neat guy. Jonathan is a good friend of my wifes from when she used to work at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, he's the one that got us backstage to meet the gang. We owe him a nice dinner.... :-)
Don - it was a blast, and won't ever be forgotten for sure. My kids are still watching the videos and listening to the mp3's we created from the concert. They're still fired up. Brandons in there playing his guitar right now...can't get him off it for dinner! lol~ :-)
Anne - that is going to be an awesome show. Have Fun!! Meatloaf...speaking of that, I have to go have dinner real quick with the FAM, I'll be back to comment more in a few! lol~ :-)
Brad-I just have to tell you how much I admire you, not only as a awesome AR builder but also as a family man. I can tell how much your family means to you and I think that is terrific. God, family and friends is what life is all about. I'd say you very much have your priorities straight. An AR friend got spammed and he was asking for help as what to do and the blog you did a short while back about that popped in my head so instead of just telling him about it I scrolled back thru yours and sent it to him so possibly it could help him and as I was looking for it I came across the blog you did about celebrating your wife's birthday. She is beautiful. Sounds like you had a very special day together. All your wife had to do to know how you would treat her is to see how you treated your Mom and I enjoyed that video(at Petrified Forest) as well. Very admirable and very refreshing. You are blessed and you are definitely a blessing to others.
Definitely looks like all the family had a great time at the concert. A beautiful and special memory to last a lifetime. I love the way those collage of pics move in and out like that. That's cool. Did you write a blog on how you do that?
Now if I may I would like to ask a ? and didn't know where else I could ask you. I'm not a big techy person(challenged might be a good word). I have a cassette of my music that I would like to transfer to my computer and then put it on a blog here on AR that people could click on and listen. It's part of a blog I have in mind to do but don't know how to do that and also is it something I can put on a blog on AR. I know from being here only a short time you're the whiz at knowing all the techy stuff as well as the AR rules. Thank you I appreciate any help you can give me and if I can't do it, that OK too. Long winded I know. Sorry!!!!
That is sooo cool Brad ... they were all here in The Woodlands a few months ago but they sold out before I got tickets! I'm glad your whole family got to go! pippa
You are correct... Revelation is great. :) Some of my younger clients are discovering them for the first time. Some of them are getting sick of the same CD playing in my car, over and over LOL
(I'm not sure anyone will ever quite compare to Steve Perry, but this 'kid' comes close.)
I just spent an hour looking for my box of memories - I have seen each of these - and Journey and Heart are two of my favorites - I was a groupie for years - I am so glad you and your family had a great time - rock on - and rock often - the world is a great place with music
Brad, That must have been a awesome night. Wish I could find a concert like that in this area. I'll have to check and see if they will be here. thanks for sharing.
Pat - your comment was almost as long as my post! LOL and I loved it. Thank you so much. The photos? I used photobucket.com to create the stamp slide show. They have about 30 different options to choose from. As far as your tape, there are ways to do that, and there are companies that do provide that service, my equipment is not currently setup to do it for you or I would. If you can't find someone or a source to help you with that, let me know, and I'll see what I can do or who I can refer you to that I trust and will do a good job for very inexpensive. Thanks again for all the great compliments and kudos you left me in your comment here. WOW! :-))
Thesa - I was really thinking of you when I posted this, I knew you were waiting for it and I felt committed! lol Is it a rumor that you're still a groupie???
BTW - I am following you on twitter now... (our inside joke) :-))
Brad-My pleasure on what I said in my comment-I do have a tendency to be long winded but always put a lot of thought in to what I say and am always genuine in what I do say. I almost didn't recognize you without the shades.(except I saw you without them in the blog about your Mom's birthday.) I appreciate the help on what I asked. I'm working on that blog with the music but just got to find the time to do it. It sure would be better if I wasn't so technology challenged. Thank you again for all you do. You're the best.
Pat - no...you're the best! I appreciate your comments very much. It's obvious you put a lot of thought and sincerity into them. Much more appreciated than the standard GPTFS. (Great Post, Thanks For Sharing) although I do appreciate those too, I just don't have the time to respond to those as much anymore. :-)
Hawaii Homes - yes it is some great classic rock. My kids were so excited to meet the guys from Journey, they still haven't come down from the clouds. LOL~
