Bike rider in traffic, Tucson, AZThe League of American Bicyclists lists Tucson among the top eight communities in America for being bicycle friendly.  That's information that we want to feature on the Web.

What about your community?  Here's something useful.

Under the heading Bicycle Friendly Communities, you'll find more than 60 communities listed on their website.  Scroll down on the page to "Current Bicycle Friendly Community Master List."

Yours may be on the list.  If so, feature the link on your Localism Community Sponsor Web page.  It's one more tool in your toolbox.

Great site.  More people ride bikes than cars in Key West.

Mike - I think this is great for Tuscon. Growing up in the greater Boston area I can't imagine how there would be room to accomodate bicycles easily with such narrow streets. Here in NH we are working at constructing bicycle lanes.

Mike--What a great informational site. I work a bit too far north of the cities for people to bike to work but know closer into the downtowns this would be a wonderful addition as Mpls and St Paul have many bike trails and with gas prices more and more people have started to pedal to work!

Mike, as you know I grew up in southern AZ but my husband had never been there. The second time we went he tried to use the bike lane as a turning lane! Good thing there were no bikers around at the time! I still tease him whenever we're in Tucson about it.

Mike - Yep...here in Ashland Oregon, we made the list. Medford Oregon is working on it, but has a ways to go yet. Thanks for the great idea for linking to Localism!

Mike, Lynchburg's nickname is "The Hill City" but we do have several areas of the city that are bike friendly, many nature trails and bike paths.

We built bike paths and for the most part most of the bikers still use the road. My big complaint is they expect cars to obey traffic rules and the biker seem to think they don't have to stop or comply with the basic rules of the road. If you are gonig to use the road obey the rules.

Mike,

None of the large cities in the county made the list.  Maybe it is something that we need to work on here.

Pam,

If you need help inserting the link, just call me on my cellphone.

Teri,

I wonder if those skywalks that go through the city allow any sort of wheeled vehicle?

Judy,

We have our annual Tour de Tucson coming up in November.  It's huge!

Barbara,

You're welcome!

The city that I live in is hardly walker friendly let alone bicycling. There are park trails, but getting around town is nearly impossible! Thanks for the info!!!

Hi Mike,  I checked and my city is not on the list, but I see cyclists all the time!  They aren't commuter cyclists but seem to be on longer treks.  Hmmmm.  I give them credit (and the right of way!).  Cheers, Harley

Hi Mike.  I live in a very bicycle friendly town.  There are bike rental places on the island for when vacationers come down.  It is quicker, and better for everyone, to park your car for the week and bike or walk.  We are surrounded by ocean and the bay so the ride will be beautiful.  I will need to get linked under the communities.  Thanks for the post.

Our area has the Paul Bunyan Trail which is paved for biking pleasure for 80 miles.  It is the longest Rail to Trail system in the nation.

Robin,

You're very welcome!  See you soon on your blog.

Kathleen,

When I was a high school kid visiting Grandma in Sauk Rapids, we drove up to Brainerd and I had the pleasure of walking across the great Mississippi River.  (I think that was Brainerd.)  I remember the Paul Bunyan stuff too.  Thanks for commenting.
