Wearing my white jeans today and feeling good about it. Yes, to work!

Do any of you girls remember (guys also perhaps) when fashion dictated?  The dictators told you what to Dress and look alikewear and when.

No white shoes (or white jeans if we'd had any) after Labor Day which was several days ago.

The ladies skirt lengths either went up or down as decided by fashion moguls. (During war they were shorter for some reason.)  The skirt might be 3" below the knee, at the kneecap, or above the knee by an inch or two. I remember my mother fretting about what the dress length would be "this year."  She probably had to hem my hand-me-downs to be in style.

No pants can be worn to church!  Horrors!  That would be a sin!  My mother-in-law fussed at me about attending church.  I replied that if she didn't mind my wearing my nice pant suit to church just as I wore to work I'd attend.  She sniffed and declined the proposition.

Black patent leather shoes were for summer, not winter.  Seersucker suits were summer suits for men.

For fall there were transition clothes since you could no longer wear your summer stuff.

Believe it or not, it hasn't been many years since JCPenney and banks insisted that women employees wear high heeled shoes to work!!  This was told to me over the weekend by an ex-employee of JCPenney.  Just think how many ruined feet that caused.

Today is better.  We dress in what is comfortable.  At least "youth" has contributed to that feeling of dress to please yourself.  So it's hot today and white shoes and white pants felt good!!

Don, you were every girl's heart throb in that outfit.  Rolled up jeans, penny loafers, matched socks and shirt and probably almost a letter jacket.  I'll bet they swooned when you walked by!!!

Ron Tarvin, you're my type fellow.  Just be a clean and clean-cut fellow.  : )

Carol, I think some people are clothes crazy and buy fancy things.  Then they look for a place to go to wear them.  We have this one agent who does no real estate but comes to the office in the fanciest clothes.  It gets her out of the house and gives her a chance to show off the duds.  To each his own....

Celina, it's still hot in Arkansas, too.  So if it feels good, wear it, I always say.  When my feet are getting cold in sandals, I'll change.  Thanks for comments.

Gary, and don't forget that old song, "Don't you step on my blue suede shoes."  White belts were SO fashionable!!

Barbara - watch out for that Serial Mom who takes dress rules seriously, like Beverly Sutphin who took matters a bit too far.

If you have that contest, I suspect that Nutsy will win. He has a great outfit, with a white vest.

I have a daughter who works in the fashion industry, and she wears whatever she wants ( and always looks great) as long as it's appropriate for the occasion.

And did you know that Nordstrom insists on women wearing hose and no bare legs are allowed with at skirt? It gets very warm and sticky here in North Carolina in the summer!

Barbaraa - Beverly Sutphin is the Kathleen Turner character in the movie Serial Mom. She is a serial killer for reasons of fashion and such, like wearing white after Labor Day.

Barbara,

I thought you would go to jail if you wore white after Labor Day!!!  It was the absolute law of fashion!

I am glad we are no longer in fashion bondage!

Steven, first I need to know how to do a contest.  Secondly, I need t know how to discriminate against squirrels in white vests.  I'll check with Charles on how to do both of those things.

Kara, now tell me how to conduct one.

Linda, I did not know that about Nordstroms.  You must go read my blog about panty hose.  There must be a lot of rebellion at the store, according to my poll.

Mike, I need to rent Serial Mom now I guess.  You are such a wealth of knowledge.

Mary, you do remember those times, don't you?  LOL

C-Tann, thanks for the feature at Club Chaos.  I think I will try to hold the contest and see who has the very best old favorite outfit.  I can remember a coat that I wore for years.  I loved that coat and the way it swung out behind me as I walked briskly to my destination. (At least in my mind it did that!)  I've got to find the picture to share.  Look for yours also.

Barbara,

Like an old song with memories, pulling out an old photo can tickle the memory glands

Steven, I love old photos!  Black and white ones are my favorite.  Thanks for stopping by.  I've gotta go back to your blog and see if the go-go dancers work tonight.

Sean, I do have to find my photo first.  I was walking across the yard with my favorite coat streaming out behind me.....to the best of my memory......
