Happy New Year!

Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown tonight and ends at nightfall on Wednesday, October 1st.

Rosh Hashanah which literally means 'head of the year' is the first day of the Jewish New Year 5769.

Rosh Hashanah begins a ten day period of holy days of introspection and contemplation culminating in Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

Mitchell, thanks for the New Year's wishes.  I made sure to buy some apples and honey the other day and it was refreshing to have some spiritual renewal these past two days amidst all the gloomy economic news.

L' Shana Tovah! Mitchell !

It's sort of the only bright spot on the week, what with the bail out etc lol.  I'm looking forward to hearing, also, what you think about the request to strip term limits and allow Bloomberg to run again.  Life is never dull this year!  May next year be less unstable but equally exciting.

Maraget, Thank you and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year to you and your family.

Carole, Happy New year! Yes, the holiday was a bright spot this week. I voted against term limits. I think term limits are un democratic. I believe in voting them out of office not forcing them out. I would vote for Bloomberg for a third term. All the great Mayors of NYC had 3 terms. Laguardia, Wagner and Koch. It wasn't until the 90's during Guilliani that the city voted for term limits. If we must have term limits I think it should be three terms not two.

Mitch, when I ran away from home in Topeka, KS, I arrived in NY on Rosh Hashanah and couldn't understand why there were so few cars and people on the streets!  A cab driver tried to explain it to me.  Holiday?  Huh?  New Years?  Huh?  Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore!  And Zabars was open and I got my first hit of deli smell!

Happy New Year!
