Just announced -

WASHINGTON -- The House has just defeated a $700 billion emergency rescue package, ignoring urgent pleas from President Bush and bipartisan congressional leaders to quickly bail out the staggering financial industry.

Stocks started plummeting on Wall Street even before 228-205 to reject the bill was announced on the House floor. The Dow Jones industrials were down more than 600 points.

Now what?

My understanding is that they had the votes until Nancy Pelosi opened her mouth and spewed more vitriol about the Bush administration.

Sometimes sounding like everyone's worst nightmare of a mother-in-law doesn't encourage cooperation.

That's my understanding too. I heard La Pelous at the news conference last night and it was shameful. Hopefully the Dems will realize sher can't even effectively lead them, let alone mount a successful bi-partisan effort to accomplish anything and bring in somebody qualified. Just another California export to be proud of. Yikes.
