Miami Shores annual Marshmallow Drop ......continued

In a post entitled Miami Shores annual Marshmallow Drop , I started telling you about an incredible Miami Shores event that takes place every year in the recreation fields, the Saturday before Easter.

"The Marshmallow Drop is an event every kid in Miami Shores looks forward to, no matter the age (I am so glad that I have the perfect excuse to be a part of it since I have kids). Every year, the Saturday before Easter, a helicopter will drop over 10,000 marshmallows over the Miami Shores Recreation fields."

The ANNUAL MARSHMALLOW DROP took place today, April7th, at 9:30 AM and as promised, here are some photos as well as video of the event.

The first video shows the helicopter hovering above the crowd dropping marshmallows all over the field. The second video shows all the kids running out to the fields to retrieve the marshmallows and then exchange them for a goodie-bag (keep in mind that the lucky finders of the "GOLDEN MARSHMALLOWS", get a special prize!).

Here are some photos of the event. My oldest son was so determined to get a "golden marshmallow" this year and he did! This is the first time one of my kids gets the cherished prize.

Follow this LINK for another video of my kids with their basket right after the DROP.

OK, what is so special about the 'golden egg'? Is there a prize for getting it? And don't you just love the kid that thought about bringing his tricker treat pumpkin!

What ever! You guys get all the fun stuff over there. Sanctioned marshmallow rain? How can you beat that?

What an awesome and very unique tradition! These are some great videos and pictures, too, Ines.

Dena- I had not even seen the pumpkin - what an eye you have! The golden marshmallow gets you a big basket (the one my sons are holding), otherwise you get a small goodie-bag.

Chris - it is the coolest event - although this year it was windy and the guys from the helicopter dropped one of the bags and it had to be spread by hand by rec-personnel on the ground (technical difficulties).

Mariana - you slipped in there. I have to admit that it is pretty cool - although a lady got mad at my son for finding the golden marshmallow, according to her, he was too old. He brought it to my 2-year old son who had 104 degree fever the night before.....and couldn't make it to the DROP.

You got to love You Tube. That was fun. If I was there I would have had fun knocking the little kids over to get that golden marshmallow.

Ines, that looked like a lot of fun. Now I wonder if the kids are going to get any of the candy in the basket before you get to it :)

Jay - I can just picture you tackling little kids...you are so funny!

George - you know I got to the candy before they did - I'm the MOM, it's called "quality control" : )

Ines - I'm so glad for your son! Please congratulate him for me. He's already learning that with goals clearly in mind and determination, you can do it! They are both cuties!! What are their ages again? It's a self-serving question. I have 2 girls I can hook up with them lol

Maggie - that's what I told him....I told him I was so proud of him because of his determination and this was the perfect example that you can achieve absolutely ANYTHING with determination. The oldest is 12, the middle one 10 and the little one 2. How old are your girls?

I vote Ines' kids have the coolest names, ever. Plus they have dimples, it's almost not fair.

I wonder where Craig is? He always has a smart crack about our beautiful weather.......OH CRAIGGGGG!!! WHERE ARE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU??

Ines, I had forgotten about your baby. Sorry! My girls are 12 and 15. The little one thinks she's 25 but that's another story altogether. Maybe one day if we ever get around to doing that lunch they can all meet.

Maggie - my 12 is also going on 25...they would get along just fine....or kill each other! I'm all for having the kids come along. I have a couple of nephews that are 15 and 16 also (one of them is visiting from N. Carolina and will stay at my house 'till tomorrow).

Ines, I really do want to do lunch one day. I know how busy you presently are with Project Blogger kicking off tomorrow (go-o-o-o Ines!) and I've got some stuff to catch up on these next few weeks. But I really would like to make the effort. Let's revisit this and make some plans one day!

Ines.... this looked like fun. Watching the kids running looked like a riot in a way.... when those kids fell? lol In any case, your son got the golden marshmallow. ....so cool. I looked at the picture, what did he get? A big basket? thanks for sharing....

Hey... PS>.. didn't I talk about something in your previous post, about dropping something from a helicopter? Did they steal my idea? lol I think though, I mentioned ...kids jumping out of the helicopter while chasing after the candy per se... lol

Maggie - let's definitely make the effort, we'll talk and see how are schedules are.

Jeff - I think you said throwing the kids out of the helicopter and having the parents take their candy.......NOT!! j/k - I had never seen the rush of kids from this angle, it did look a little scary....but it isn't - the bigger kids go first and the little ones just follow and have fun.

Rick & Ines that was one mob of kiddo's going for the treats! Great post! I enjoyed the 1st one a couple of days ago also!

It is snowing in downtown Chicago TODAY!

Our kids had to wear COATS to hunt for their cold frozen eggs. Soon it will be WARM here and when it is.... look out cause I am gonna post the most BEAUTIFUL picture of SPRING you ever saw.

Ines, is Danny offering to cook up a real Texan B-B-Q for us? We could swim across the Gulf of Mexico to cut down on some miles. =)

How neat! I bet it was lost of fun. I love marshmallows and would of been hard pressed not to eat them!!!
