Today I received an email from my advertising director. The email stated that one of my agents had just joined another company. There was no warning that she was looking around and last time I talked to her, she seemed very happy. Boy that news came out of nowhere.
She was on the team of one of my business partners. She is an excellent agent and has great potential. I am very sad to see her go and wish her nothing but success. Even though she has left our company, we will still remain friends. She just had to do what she had to do.
In this market, it is getting more and more difficult to recruit quality agents and to keep existing agents. Everyone seems so restless. I tell my agents that if they can get through this market, they make it in any market and to hold on and I'll support them as best as I can.
My business partners and I don't see eye to eye on how to approach this challenging market. I am pushing to reduce expenses to a point where it hurts and to create an income plan for agents that is flexible enough so they can contribute to the company but still make a living. Now is the time to get creative. Everytime i hear someone say "at XYZ Company we always did it this way", I want to scream.
I never want to lose sight of the fact that the agents are the company and they deserve my total support. We can't afford to take another shot out of nowhere.
Take care.
