Paul Sullins passed awayThis morning I received an email from Terri Sullivan, informing me that Paul Sullins passed away on August, 2nd, at the age of 45, (article here).

Paul was one of the initial members of the ActiveRain Real Estate Network, and had been one of the network's most active members.  Many members probably remember the wit and enthusiasm that he brought to the community.  I had spoken with him on a number of occasions and even though I had never met him in person I could tell he was genuinely a great guy.

He was also one of the most visible and active members of his own community in Wilmington, NC.  He was described as "Mr. Downtown", "There isn't a child or a person that didn't know him".  Paul served on many local committees in the town and helped to make it what it was today.

  • Current Realtor of the Year, Wilmington Regional Association of Realtors, also serving on their board
  • Served on the board of Wilmington Downtown Inc. and it's central business district committee
  • Vice President of the Wilmington Harbor Enhancement Trust
  • Was instrumental in starting the Invasion of the Pirates, a part of the local Riverfest

Paul Sullins you will be missed...

Update: Information about Paul's memorial service

I am in a state of shock.  I can't imagine what his family, friends and busiess partners in NC are going through.  I did have interaction with him as well.  I can't describe the face and feeling that I have right now.  Makes me want to call my loved ones/family and tell them that I love them.  He ranked #1 on activerain and from the article that I just read, he was always #1 in his community as well.  He was ranked #6 yesterday and I took his place now.  Paul, I did not know you from a face to face situation but I really do miss you.  My condolences go out to all the Sullins family.

Always,

Nima

I'm also in shock.  Network Realty has such a big presence on the coast and even in my area-The Triangle.  It's just hard to believe.  God bless the Sullins family.

Oh dear, I was thinking all this month that Paul must be working hard, because he hasn't been visible here on Active Rain.  I am so sorry to hear the sad news.  Paul was such a class act around here, he set such a fine example for us all to follow.

He will be missed.

Our condolences go out to his family. 45 years is way to short a time to be here on this Earth.

I am so saddened to read this... what a shock.

It is so odd to feel something so personal... when all you knew of the person were thru the words he shared in his blog.  But that is the magic of this forum... this community of colleagues.

God bless you...

Condolences and sympathy to Paul's family and friends. I was fortunate enough to join AR while Paul was still blogging, enjoyed his blogs, and shared correspondence with him. I've missed his blogs lately and wondered what happened. He'll be missed.

How fitting that he died after going beyond the call of duty by cleaning out an attic before a sale. He was that kind of person.

Matt, Emeritus is usually used for living people of stature who retire - can we stretch the definition and make Paul Sullins our #1 Active Rain Blogger Emeritus?

I am still sad about this news.  I even called one of my friends and told her about this sad news.  She has seen me on ActiveRain before.  I guess I feel like A/R is my home in cyber space away from home.

Paul will be greatly missed.

God bless the Sullins family.  It has to be very very hard to lose someone that young.  Was he ill? I did not know him but from the comments here i can see that he will be missed.

Matt, Thanks for sharing this article. My thoughts and prayers go to Paul's family.

What's the possibility of naming a category, or a blog or something special on Active Rain in honor of Paul?

Matt, thanks for sharing. I love Margaret's idea. My sympathy to his family along with my prayers.

Could we have a "forum" or somesort of area where we could post news as this rather than finding it by scrolling thru blogs. Maybe a "personal column" where we could share our joys and heartaches in this family. Just a thought.

45 years does seem too short...Sincere condolences from our family to the Sullins family.

Thank you Paul for your early contributions to this network. I consider your humor and wit were part of the main ingredients to the rapid success of ActiveRain...

A forefather who will not be forgotten.

My heart goes out to his family and friends. Even though I didn't know him but he seemed like a great person and a true person through his various community services.

I have been off of AR for a few days.  What a shock this is.  I am so sad that we will never have the opportunity to read his musings again.  What a tragic loss to so many.  I hope the AR "powers to be" will make certain the family knows how much he was loved and respected in the AR community.  Right now, I feel so powerless and would love to be able to let them know.

How tragic. In the early days of Active Rain, Paul was #1, and I was always lagging behind him at #2. We exchanged several emails about ways to grow AR. He was very bright and innovative. I felt like I grew to know him through our friendly competiton here.

Condolences to his friends and family.

Godspeed Paul.

I like the idea of naming some section of AR after Paul.  We're going to be putting up a number of new area's in the next month or so, so we'll figure out something that seems appropriate.

Paul was number one of the leader board during the early A. R. days.  It is nice to see him remembered again after all of this time.
