A SCREAMIN' Birthday In Boone NC-See The Video !

Last week, I blogged about sharing my upcoming birthday with our special friend - Brandon. I told you that we had a surprise in store for his 15th birthday. Brandon pestered us continually about WHAT we had planned. Finally, he shouted - I KNOW WHAT IT IS! We are going white water rafting. So, we played along.

On Friday, we left Beech Mountain and drove down to Boone NC as a light rain fell. As we headed to the parking area on Hwy 421 to be picked up by our guides, Brandon still thought he was going rafting. When the Pinzgauer 6-wheel drive Swiss Army transport pulled up with "SCREAM TIME ZIPLINE" emblazoned on the side, I thought that he finally "got" it but later he told me when he did really get it.

As the rain continued to fall, we loaded into the vehicle with another family and headed to the Zipline location.

When we arrived at the Scream Time Zipline barn, we stepped out to see beautiful mountain scenery with cows lazily grazing in the rain. You could barely see the cable lines criss-crossing the mountain above us. WHAT A Gorgeous location - I LOVE the mountains!

Our guides helped us get suited up with harnesses, helmuts, etc. THEN, we piled back into the Army transport and pulled up a very step hill/mountain to the first of 6 ziplines! Wow, this is when Brandon finally realized the SURPRISE, he was thrilled !!

I was getting excited also, at first I thought that I would just do photos but after chatting by phone with Monie McCoury, owner of the Zipline, I changed my mind. He told me that a 90 year old lady zipped, loved it and brought back friends... GEE, if she can do it, SO CAN I !!

So, Brandon and I started our birthday adventure with my hubby, Roger to cheer us on! At the top of the mountain, we gathered at the first line with the other family. Something was said about the lady in the other group celebrating her 50th birthday and we could not believe that there were 3 of us there celebrating a birthday on September 26th!! We truly enjoyed our day with the Bridge family from the Raleigh/Durham area. Cathy Bridge had a zippin' birthday also, and we sure enjoyed sharing it with you guys!!

Brandon, Me and Roger - a little soggy in the rain but I still LOVED IT. We zipped back and forth with the 5th line going through the trees, very cool. I felt like Jane in the jungle!! I am looking forward to going back when it's not raining! Wow, one of the best birthdays I can remember!!

Since it was so rainy, I did not get as many photos or video as I would have liked. My camera is not waterproof. I hope to put up a video of Brandon zipping as soon as I load it to YouTube-I couldn't seem to load it directly from my PC. (anyone know?I might need help)

Hey Cheryl, WOW what a birthday!!! Thanks for sharing your birthday gift with us!! Was it cold along with the rain? Did you all then stay in the cabins for the weekend?? Brandon is soooo lucky to have you and your husband to share his time with, but then I am sure you both look at it as if you are both lucky to have Brandon spend his time with you both.

Looks like we may have a couple more weeks of the gas shortage.... take care!

Looks like you had a really great time... I'm a big chicken though so I'd have to pass! The most daring thing I've ever done is riding roller coasters (upside down, standing, suspended, etc) and as I'm aging they aren't really my favorite passtime anymore either!

Happy Birthday! What a fun time! So we share our name AND our Birthday month! Hubby too, and many good friends. Did you know September is the most popular birth month? 9 months after a long winters night =O )

I love this! We just might have to check this out when we visit friends in Blowing Rock (why have they never told me about it?) It looks like you guys had a blast. I just went back and read the story of how Brandon became part of your family--what a blessing. Did your Mom come through with the homemade German chocolate cake? My Grannie makes that and it is one of my favorite!

Cheryl M, How funny- Happy Bday late, that's so cool, same month bday, same name and both LOVE decorating and anything creative !! You know, the first time in my life that it EVEN occurred to me that I was born almost exactly 9 months after Christmas was not too long ago.. Cynthia, YOU DO need to check out the Zipline, they just started in January - so it's the first season. They are even putting in a Zorb! Yep, MOM made the german chocolate cake and it's GONE !! Then our office manager at the insurance agency made me a Carrot Cake - 2nd favorite - YUM !! OK, NOW it's diet time again !! God bless,

Oh my gosh, it looks scary but fun. My first thought was what if your arms give out, but it goes so fast I suppose anyone can hold on and there is the harness. How about young children? How old must they be to do it?

Hi Cynthia, Some of the zippers did not even hold onto the strapping, the harness is secured at your waist.. However, my arms were so sore the next day because I was HOLDING on for dear life. The last run, I was brave enough to let go of one arm!! I think they have had very young children, according to Monie, the owner.. There's no age limit.. God bless,

Cheryl, I think we might be in the same vicinity of age, so if you can do it, I can do it! (BIG TALKER HERE!) It would be fun to plan something like that, let me know what time frame you are thinking of, and I just might join you!

Hey Cheryl M, You probably are a good guesser ;-) I would LOVE To have some of my AR ladies come to Beech Mtn. If you come up with a time frame, we can probably make it work.. Let me know, the house has 5 bedrooms and plenty of sofa space so we could get a decent group.... I need to get Cheryl Willis, Elizabeth Nieves(she's in NC) and some of the other local Rainers.

OMGOSH...that looks like soooooo much fun! I know that Brandon was tickled pink. It looks like the birthday girl had a blast also. Do you KNOW what I forgot to tell you? One of my daughters...Adriana...shares your birthday also. This was a special one for her because it was her first birthday in this country. We had a huge family party. She was sooooo excited. Next year...we might just have to try something like this. The girls would have a BLAST! Me too!!! GBU, sis!!

Cheryl, What a BLAST that must have been....and I loved the video -- you could really tell how FAR that is! Wonderful way to celebrate a birthday and thanks for sharing it! Btw, I love the mountains too, Long Island is flat :(
