I joined Active Rain in Feb 07. I was still under the high of a top selling year in 06 and ready to step my Real Estate Career up a notch. My first ever blog post- was short to the point and pretty lame. Only one co-worker commented. Almost 11 months later a client 'found' me from this post in the rain and commented.
It took about a year before I decided to jump in and play in the cyber relm. I am so glad I did. The past several months I have been enjoying the free education, the banters between peers, and the diversion from the doom and gloom of mainstream existence.
Last week I posted about attending a bike rally in Arkansas. All was well with my world. I had my weekend planned in my head to be a time helping hubby finish a re-model for a church member. Saturday started out on schedule until I 'got the call' from my broker. He was asking when I planned to be in the office. (I had a noon meeting reschedule to 2 pm so I wasn't going in till then) When I asked if he needed me for something else he told me yes, the office was closing and I need to remove my personal items over the weekend and turn in my key.
WHAT? How did I not see that coming?-- blame it on the rain- just kidding
To make a long story short, One phone call to Kay Van Kapen was all it took. She made a few calls to set up for me to interview with the Springfield, MO RE/MAX House of Brokers (I have several friends in that office) She also told me a bit about her other office in OZARK, RE/MAX Solutions. I figured since I don't have to be in the office to work with an office that it would be just as easy to not be in one office as another. Her broker called me Monday morning to see what he could do to help me make a decision, we agreed to meet to check each other out. On the way to meet with Scott, Jeff from Springfield called to have me come see him. I told him I was in route to Ozark and he was welcome to butt in if he wanted to pay. I have to admit this was a fun lunch meeting for me. Four Brokers, two offices and a nice Mexican spread. We visited, we interviewed each other and I knew that either way I went it was a good move. Scott from Ozark called dibs b/c he met me first, I thought they should just flip a coin and the looser had to take me.
Today I moved a handful of stuff into my new office- attended a sales meeting and got to check out my new peers. It didn't take long to feel right at home.
If anyone would have told me a week ago that I would be relocating, I would have wondered what they were smoking! But look at me now- Cheryl (MO BROKER working from home & the Ozark office)willis
Cheryl: Saw your comment in Richard Weisser's post and just had to stop by to check out your story. When faced with what could have been bad news, you turned it to your advantage with the help of relationships formed on A/R. Good for you! This speaks volumes to your current & prospective clients about your resourcefulness. Thanks for the great post and good luck at your new office.
