I joined Active Rain in Feb 07.  I was still under the high of a top selling year in 06 and ready to step my Real Estate Career up a notch.  My first ever blog post-  was short to the point and pretty lame.  Only one co-worker commented.  Almost 11 months later a client 'found' me from this post in  the rain and commented.

It took about a year before I decided to jump in and play in the cyber relm.  I am so glad I did.  The past several months I have been enjoying the free education, the banters between peers, and the diversion from the doom and gloom of mainstream existence.

Last week I posted about attending a bike rally in Arkansas. All was well with my world.  I had my weekend planned in my head to be a time helping hubby finish a re-model for a church member.  Saturday started out on schedule until I 'got the call' from my broker.  He was asking when I planned to be in the office.  (I had a noon meeting reschedule to 2 pm so I wasn't going in till then)  When I asked if he needed me for something else he told me yes, the office was closing and I need to remove my personal items over the weekend and turn in my key.

WHAT?  How did I not see that coming?--  blame it on the rain- just kidding

To make a long story short, One phone call to Kay Van Kapen was all it took.  She made a few calls to set up for me to interview with the Springfield, MO RE/MAX House of Brokers (I have several friends in that office)  She also told me a bit about her other office in OZARK, RE/MAX Solutions.  I figured since I don't have to be in the office to work with an office that it would be just as easy to not be in one office as another.  Her broker called me Monday morning to see what he could do to help me make a decision, we agreed to meet to check each other out.  On the way to meet with Scott, Jeff from Springfield called to have me come see him.  I told him I was in route to Ozark and he was welcome to butt in if he wanted to pay.  I have to admit this was a fun lunch meeting for me.  Four Brokers, two offices and a nice Mexican spread.  We visited, we interviewed each other and I knew that either way I went it was a good move.  Scott from Ozark called dibs b/c he met me first,  I thought they should just flip a coin and the looser had to take me.

Today I moved a handful of stuff into my new office- attended a sales meeting and got to check out my new peers.  It didn't take long to feel right at home.

If anyone would have told me a week ago that I would be relocating, I would have wondered what they were smoking!  But look at me now-    Cheryl (MO BROKER working from home & the Ozark office)willis

Cheryl:  Saw your comment in Richard Weisser's post and just had to stop by to check out your story.  When faced with what could have been bad news, you turned it to your advantage with the help of relationships formed on A/R.  Good for you!  This speaks volumes to your current & prospective clients about your resourcefulness.  Thanks for the great post and good luck at your new office.

CG- I do seem to be that way, always at home. Today was even fun sorting through files and redo-ing all the stuff with contract info on it.  My home office is functional, my real office is going to be a hoot.  My first real day there is Friday- wish them well.  thanks for caring.  cheryl

Wow!  In a tough job market, (along with every other kind of market!) to have 2 offices vying for you has to feel good!  Your positive and upbeat attitude probably "did you proud" during your interview time with them.  My hubby saw the handwriting on the wall, once, and bailed before they did.  A week later, everyone lost their jobs when they arrived to locked doors.  At least your office had the courtesy to give you SOME warning!  Congratulations on landing on your feet!

Captain, I have a hard time getting to the point or is it that I am too transparent.  I tend to speak with out thinking all the way through- kinda surreal this week, excited about getting up to speed at the 'new' home and cleaning up stuff from the old job.  Next week will be a better less hectic flow- I have several listings and only two showings scheduled so I should get a break to do a little sewing!!

Debbie- Mark Lee said the same thing, then had one of his agents call and say the same thing.  I told him if this little RE/MAX thing doesn't work out in a couple of years I will be talking to him first next time.  You can have the referral (you know if our offices were closer I would be at yours in a heart beat)  I have a regional meeting at the lake on Monday, do you want to babysit me Sunday so I don't have to drive it all in one day?  Plan B is to drive up early a.m. with the gals from Springfield so either way it is good.

Cheryl Marantino- our market has been down a bit and several agents have left.  I call it the spring shuffle.  Evidently this last quarter was not as expected.   I love my old brokers dearly and wish them the best of luck.  They have to do what they have to do to keep a business going.  The decision was to close the office I work out of and downsize to working out of their home.  I would have preferred a little more notice but that is a risk one takes when they work with others.  I am a broker and could do IT ALL by myself.  I choose to NOT take on that headache and thus am sometimes an expendable pawn.  Sorry it didn't work out but the good news is that I have an awesome group of brokers/agents to trade brain cells with.  It's all good.

Thanks everyone for letting me have a time to think and plan.  be good  cw

Cheryl, changing offices is never easy.  Sometimes having the rug pulled out from under you makes you refocus on your work, your clients and your business.  Never take anything for granted.  You made a great decision and have landed quickly on your feet.  Congratulations on joining RE/MAX Solutions!................now come in an let's get that new technology under way and that income rolling in.  See you  tomorrow!

Thanks Michael, there are still a couple of little hiccups to take care of but looks like the end of the years is going to be a good one.  I hate the part where I have to 'tell' why I am moving.  Its so sad, but I guess a part of working for someone else, we have to play by their business model and when it breaks them, we have to find a way to adapt.  cheryl(did you see me new picture?)willis
