John joined our office in the summer of 2005 and always had a great attitude and I love seeing that in any Realtor but especially in new Realtors. It reminds me of a "Rookie" showing up at spring training camp and all his family, coaches and co-players are waiting with anticipation to see what this young person can do. John had been with another company for 6 months when he joined our office.
Around the 1st week of January of 2006 I was talking to John and asked him what he was doing. John replied he was working on his goals for 2006. I asked him how he was doing with goal setting and he replied that he had just finished up. I then asked "so do you have an income goal"? John replied that he did indeed. I said "Don't tell me what it is but cross it out and double it". He said what???!!!
I proceed to tell John about Elaine Northrup Adversity - One Lady's Incredible Story of Conquering It and he was amazed by her story. He said he had never heard of such a thing and he thanked me for sharing the story and for sharing it with such enthusiasm.
I would check with John off and on throughout the year and around the 1st part of December 2006 I asked him how he was doing with his new goal. John replied that he calculated he would be only $30,000 shy of the goal he set. In other words he had doubled his goal as I had asked him and he came only $30,000 shy of that new goal! John nearly doubled the 1st goal he had set for himself.
John thanked me and shared with me that his previous broker had laughed at him when he shared with her his goal for 2005 saying his goal was unrealistic. He said he would not work for someone that did not believe in him and left her office a month after she laughed at him.
Many of us are limited by our own thinking or someone else's thinking. Ever hear of the saying "A new Realtor won't earn much the 1st two years"? I hate that comment! I don't want anyone telling anyone that they can't do something. If someone does not believe in themselves that's O.K. but I don't want them taking someone else down with them.
I honestly believe that we place limitations on ourselves as well. I know I have in the past and when I stopped living with self-imposed limitations and started thinking about what was possible my world started to change and many positive things started to happen.
Let's be a cheerleader for those around us, even if there is nothing in it for us. Let's give the Johns of the world wings to fly.

Hip Hip Huray... How's that for a bubbly cheer my friend....!
