The last few days have been hectic with me having so many people in town, but tonight I had a chance for a quick escape at a new show. Donny and Marie Osmond have opened at the Flamingo Hilton, and after seeing tonight's performance it's no wonder they were sold out on a Tuesday night. They were absolutely fantastic, performing an energetic and entertaining show, and were in touch with their audience with their down to earth appeal. It's no surprise that they received two standing ovations for the performance that covered both of their long careers. As you can see from the picture below, they even cover the front of the building!

Donny and Marie Flamingo Las Vegas

The brother and sister duo are backed up with an excellent band the covers their wide range of music, from country and rock to showtunes and big band. Marie even does one opera number, and her voice is absolutely heavenly. This is all done around a cast of dancers, along with video screens showing them live, and clips and effects that Donny produced himself and pulls from his own servers in Provo Utah.

They both look terrific, and if there's any Donny Osmond fans out there, eat your heart out! My first sighting of him backstage was as he came out of his dressing room while putting on his shirt. Marie is just as sweet and beautiful as ever, just like the last time I saw her at a wedding here in Las Vegas.

After hearing her schedule, mine didn't seem anywhere near as bad. Besides doing 6 shows 5 days a week, she's squeezed in 4 days of shooting new NutraSystem commercials in between. With 8 children and a new puppy, I have no idea how she has so much energy to do her show, and then meet and greet some of her fans afterward. She still wasn't done when she slipped to the ready room backstage to greet us, and both her and Donny did a few pictures before they had to run off for more.

So a big thank you to Donny and Marie for their excellent performance and hospitality. Also a big thank you to Marie's manager Karl, and to Patty for getting us into the sold out show on short notice.

As I've said before, this is one of the reasons Las Vegas is such an incredible place to live. Having access to so many great shows, entertainers, and such a wide variety of entertainment to chose from every night of the week.

<<<  UPDATE  >>>

Donny & Marie did sign off on a contract extension, and are now currently scheduled to appear at the Flamingo Las Vegas through Oct. 2010.

Nice report, Roberta!  I'm happy that their show is doing so well...looks like it will even be extended maybe for up to 2 years.  I had the chance to work with Donny a few months ago for this show. (I'm a musician in my other life, I'm on the recording that the live band plays along with in the show)  I was just very impressed by him.  Down to earth, good head on his shoulders and very talented.  He was doing a great deal of the sound engineering himself....you NEVER see the stars get up to their elbows in the technical stuff, and there he was.

They are a class act, I wish them the best continued success.

Mike: Yes it's great to see them doing so well, but you're right, they earn it with their efforts. They are in discussions to extend the show to two years, nothing is settled at the moment, but I can understand why from the crowds and their reaction. Cool that you got to play on the track...next time I'll have to listen for you! :-) What do you play? Donny sure does get in to his elbows, just like he does with the media effects of the show.

Welch: I'm sure you'll enjoy the show, We stood on the side while waiting for the crowds to clear to make our way backstage, all you could overhear was kudos for their performance, so not just my opinion of the show. I just hope you have your tickets! I thought it would be 'slower' on a weekday night, but the 750 seat theater was sold out.

Sharron: They really earn that recognition, from the quality and effort of their performance, to the time they spend connecting with their fans. Without a doubt they are a class act. It's even easier to see within their loyal circle behind the scenes of the show. I'm also personally aware of their strong friendships that have lasted a lifetime. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have been able to be there that night.

I so so sure you'd have a YouTube video of The Osmonds singing "One Bad Apple." That would have brought back some memories.

Jim: Have to save something for their show, sung live with the original video clips in the background. That should bring back a few memories.

Bob: You should check them out, great show. Sometimes Norm's sources don't get him the info before deadline, I'll give him a nudge next time I see him. :) Gerry also does a great show, I'd bet you'll enjoy that one as well.

Sassy: Hey, and this one is a very good excuse! Glad I could help spread the word.

I've met a lot of artists when I was DJ and unfortunately Donnie and Marie weren't one of them. Most are very down to Earth, there are those rare few though that are truly what you expect them to be when you meet them and I hope they were for you as well.

Maybe you can pull some strings and get me back stage when I get down your way! I got to meet Peter, Paul and Mary about 10 years ago and I have to say they were everything I imagined it would be and even got them to sign a couple gifts for my parents.

Beth: Maybe I'm wrong, but I think you might be a little bit of a fan. LOL Great show, you'll have a good time. Marie is here, Donny stays through the show and commutes to his home in Utah on their dark days.

Steve: It's a fun show and they make fun of each other about what they've done in the past that adds to memory lane. Another reason to plan a Vegas trip! I'll give your best to Sparky!

Todd: These two really connect with their fans during the performance and for the VIP ticket holders with the meet & greet after. I have run into some that were stand-offish in my time, but Donny & Marie far from it, and treated us very well. I can't promise anything...I'm already getting email fan requests from this post!

I found myself getting letters from fans also when I wrote about meeting Peter, Paul and Mary here in Portland and people wanting to know if I could introduce them.

Gotta love fans!

Todd: Yes, gotta love them. Most are great and appreciate the heads up. A few others want to give me a new occupation...ticketing, personal host, and autograph broker. Some want the home address and are so impatient.....they won't wait for the updated Marie edition of my $9.95 'Map to the Vegas Stars'. :-)

DISCLAIMER: The above mentioned map was meant as humor, please don't email requests.

Hi. I realize this is a longshot, and I really don't know what to ask, but here goes.  My 29 year old son was Utah's #1 cyclist 2 years in a row. He finally got a job working with the cycling industry and was asked to a trade show there in Las Vegas. While he was crossing the street in front of Treasure Island, a taxi hit and killed him leaving a wife and, at the time, 9 month old daughter. Allan is an Idaho native and this year marks the 3rd annual Allan Butler Memorial twilight Criterium. It is always hard asking for any sponsership, and so I thought I would try ask for them, or you for your ideas.  I love the Osmonds and especially Donnie and Marie. Maybe, the connection being the same religion. However, we will be in Las Vegas and going to their show Wednesday, March 18.  My first time in 3 years since the death of my son. Thanks.

Tammie: So sorry for the loss of your son. I remember hearing of it during Interbike a few years ago. I think your best bet for any sponsorship would be to talk with them directly. With the current economic situation many donors and sponsors have cut back, and those that still are have been swamped with requests because of it. Often the personal touch can make the difference. I hope you also can enjoy your return visit, and Donnie and Marie's show should help with that.
