Being human and struggling each day to keep an optimistic outlook on life,  I have learned that the best way to roll with the changes, accept the punches, cushion the falls and come out with a shiny star every time starts from within.

You see, there are no ifs, ands or buts when it comes to how life is viewed in these eyes.

Life is way too short.

The Great Depression started in the United States in 1929 and the downward spiral started when the stock market crashed (known as Black Tuesday).

No matter how bleak the outlook looked back then, there was still optimism from John D. Rockefeller  when he said that, "These are days when many are discouraged. In the 93 years of my life, depressions have come and gone. Prosperity has always returned and will again."

After pondering his quote for awhile I came to the same conclusion that I always do when I awake each morning (while sleepy eyed and drinking that first cup of coffee).

"It's a brand new day and there is only one person in this world that I can depend on to make this day a good one or bad one.......and that's ME".

I may not be 93 and seen many depressions come and go but I do believe that prosperity will return.

And it all starts with....ME!

Everything is cyclical. There will be good times and bad...we just have to accept that and deal the best way we can with our current situation. Good post (and attitude).

Sally- Everything starts with us....and all the money stuff is just that money.  Another quote I like is something to the effect that everything worth having didn't cost a red cent :)  Look at all the victims of calamities that lose everything.  After the shock and the tears people figure out how to make it.  It all starts with us indeed .

Well said, Sis.  Sounds corny, but this too shall pass.  Actually, many will prosper from what is going on right now.  As that famous television show once said, "You take the good, take the bad, take them both and there you have... The Facts of Life, The Facts of Life."

Woo-Hoo: I think it always comes back to "us" realizing that WE are the only ones that can control what WE do with our day and how we make it a positive or negative one. Or, life, in fact.  Great message to begin the day!      ( I bet Rockefeller didn't worry to much about his fiances as we all are). LOL

This too shall pass. If you are fortunate enough to have good health, a full belly, a roof over your head and a pillow under it, you are doing pretty well indeed.

Be grateful in all things. This day is the only one you can change!

hi Sally, no matter how bad or weird things get in life, eventually everything passes, it's how we deal with the rough times that makes all the difference. ;-)

I forgot who said this, but here it is:   "You won the lottery when you were born in the United States!"  I do believe that.  No matter how angry I get at the horrible, greedy men who put us in the position of needing an economic buyout plan while they made themselves multi-multi millionaires -- and we know who they are -- I am still grateful to have been born here.  This, too, shall pass...

Celeste,

AMEN SISTER FRIEND! You said it! It all starts with ME too...I am responsible for what type of day I end up having...I can make it a good one, or I can make it a miserable one. The other day I was in the elevator and my "neighbor" from the office down the hall looked at me and must have noticed that I was NOT feeling well. "Are you okay?" I told her that I had a severe migraine headache. "So WHY are you here at work?" I told her, "Because it's going to be a GREAT day today!" She didn't get it...I DID! POSITIVE THINKING...IT'S VITAL!

You are right everything begins with us.  Our attitudes with how we handle things is how we will react to situations.  Everything comes and goes in a cycle this too will pass.

Kathy: I just can't get into all the stuff going on....I need to just keep on for me...everything else follows...as it has been :)

Rob or Jennie?  I agree with that and I'm going to jump in my car and do a friend a favor soon :)

Renee: How's it going girl!  Yup...getting off my butt to do some work. :)

Sallly I also have "learned that the best way to roll with the changes, accept the punches", and as the years pass and I aquire more and more of the "Mature Look" I have developed more and more "cushion to fall on" :) :)

Sally - yep, times are tough and I expect will get tougher before they improve. But I am optimistic, as I think many are. We simply need to adjust our own strategies to cope more effectively with the changes that are forthcoming.

Sally, everyone needs to spend more time focusing on what we can do.  While news of financial crisis can be scary, sometimes we just need to turn off the t.v., turn off the internet, and get out there and help clients buy and sell homes.  While the overall economy does affect everything, just remember how real estate truly is local.

Sally,

I couldn't have said it better myself.  You have to start each day with a positive attitude.  From there, all things can only get better.  No matter how bad things are with me, I try to stay positive.  The current status of the financial market is temporary. It may last 5 mins, 5 days or 5 years....but this too shall pass.

Have a great day

Leander

I'm a realist who is cautiously optimistic. :)

(ie. we are still contributing to our 401K accounts, and therefore buying low)

Sally - You brightened up my day with this post.  Everday I wake up I am thankful and cherish all that I have and know I am the master of my own destiny.  I go through each day good or bad with a smile on my face.  Your post brought to mind the lyrics of the song by Frank Sinatra "That's Life":

That's life, that's what all the people say.
You're riding high in April,
Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune,
When I'm back on top, back on top in June.

I said that's life, and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks,
Stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down,
'Cause this fine ol' world it keeps spinning around

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself, flat on my face,
I pick myself up and get back in the race.

That's life
I tell ya, I can't deny it,
I thought of quitting baby,
But my heart just ain't gonna buy it.
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try,
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly

That is so true...we all make our own day, good or bad.  If we let our surroundings bring us down our day is ruined.  If we think positively then great things happen.

I remember reading that during the Great Depression more Millionaires were made than anytime in history.  That was a few years ago, so possibly this last economic run may have surpassed that.

The point is in every economy there are ways to be successful.

By the way, I read somewhere that the Rockafeller family made their millions during the Depression.

WOO WHO! I love you Sally!  Thanks for affirming my belief that we need to be responsible for our own viewpoint and we can prosper even in the bad times.  All wealth is not monetary, the most valuable comes from our hearts and you keep on giving away millions in "heart bucks" every day.

Many people think of prosperity as a monetary thing and it doesn't have to be....you can be prosperous because of the people who surround you in life....success and prosperity in my mind has less to do with money and more to do with my quality of life...so even if times are bad or slow now, I'm still prosperous because I have a community of friends I'm building here at Active Rain (among other things like my family and friends of course!)
