As the internet continues to grow exponentially, new social and professional outlets are emerging. Sites like MySpace and Facebook have revolutionized social media while sites like Active Rain have revolutionized professional networking. A natural outgrowth of the social and professional media sites are widgets.

There are widgets to see who has visited your site, to keep track of breaking news, to get updates on the latest sports scores. In addition to these types of widgets, there are instant messaging widgets that get you connected to others for chatting or conversation on both a social and professional level. I have tried out many widgets and employ several on the various site that I maintain. Today I ran across the My Trybe widget.

While the My Trybe widget is still in the Beta testing phase, it holds some promise as an integrated social and professional networking tool. It allows you to answer questions on various topics like music, news, websites, etc. These questions are then correlated to build a personality or interest profile. You then have the ability to see people's profiles who match with your own from 100% to 0%. This sounds kind of like one of those dating services and in a way it is, without the dating. It allows you to discover websites and bloggers with similar or opposite interests and opinions that you may not have noticed or ever run across before. I like this concept because it has the potential to bring bloggers to my blogs and websites and vice versa. These next few weeks will be my "beta" testing of this widget.

Hi Rich, you are always coming across interesting sites. I cannot keep up with all of these sites thanks to buyers. I've bookmarked to check the site out, thanks.

Keith - I will let you know. Like I said, I am beta testing it just like the designers of it.

Debbie - It seems there is always something new. I am glad your business is going well!

Rich - I love (and hate) these widgets. So many and so many cool widgets and so little time. But dont get me wrong, I am going to get it. Thx

That sounds rather interesting.  I am a secret widget person, although I try not to have too many on my Beetle site.  I will investigate this one :O)

James - I try out a lot of them but few are enduring for me.

Babs - Widgets can be fun. I too try not to have too many on my sites either. BTW, I loved your photo of the orange and yellow flowers yesterday.

I have tried adding widgets to my profile and they didn't work. I know I am not technically challenged but the activerain site has not been the easiest page for me to work with. I will have to go try again!

Julie - They have had quite a few issues as they try to improve it. I do like how they have made the customizer much easier to use. And the addition of Twitter is a great development. I have, over time added and removed or kept many widgets. It is really a trial and error for me to see what works well.
