Thank You Card

Real Estate is a business of communication.

Home Buyers and Sellers need direct and thorough communication in order to understand what the process of buying a house, condo, business opportunity or land.

However, in this day and age of Tweeting, emails, text messages and cell phones sometimes the tackle message is over looked.

Just last week I personally received a beautiful card with a hand written note inside from an Active Rain member I don't even know.

An article that I had written, Sometimes a Realtor Needs to Give A Hug touched her and she wanted me to know how much she appreciated it. That's when points and number of comments really doesn't seem to hold much bearing. It's that human touch that means more than anything. Susan Hilton, Realtor with Century 21 Beal in College Station Bryan Texas made my week. Her card has been on my desk all week and serves as a gentle reminder to touch my past clients with that tangible tap and let them know that I've been thinking of them, too.

We don't just deal with paper, money and houses...we deal with people's lives.

I hope this serves as a reminder during this difficult time in our economy when we are working harder than we've ever worked to take the time and stretch ourselves by reaching out to our clients, families, friends and even someone we don't know. You never know how much it might mean to someone.

Thank you, Susan for making a hard week one that was brighter with your effort to reach out.  You have taught me something this week that I should have known in a gentle kind way.

Gena,

Thank you for that gift.  Yes, I am afraid we are all caught up in the pace of our lives and with just trying to stay ahead of the game and we forget what makes us unique in this world and the compassion and caring nature sometimes gets forgotten.

GENA, Those handwritten notes are so special.  I have a special box I keep them in.  I really need to do that more.  I have thought about joining that card company that is going around just because it would make it easier and I love their cards.  I had a friend send me one over the 4th of July as she knew our son was deployed in Iraq and it is still sitting on the top of my desk.

Hi Gena, wow, what a nice thing to receive and a great reminder of giving that "personal and human touch"   Your words meant something to her and in turn she made sure you knew it - what a gift.  One most not forget that words and simple gestures like this are so powerful and can really change someone's day, their outlook and how they approach life - I'm sure it made such a difference to you and I appreciate you sharing your experience.  You ended my day on a positive note and this post has encouraged me to do the same so I thank you. ~ Anne Marie

Susan, so glad that you were the 1st to comment. What an extremely thoughtful gift you sent with warm thoughts. I can only hope that I touch others as you did me. Thank you.

Larry, how true. It seems these are days that are very full and it becomes so easy to let the niceties fall by the wayside. Susan helped bring it to the forefront.

Marchel, along with this beautiful card, Susan wrote a personal very heart-felt message which makes the card ever so much more touching. A special box sounds like a good thing but for now, it will stay on my desk as a steady reminder of how necessary it is to reach out to others.

How nice that someone reached out to you as you were going through a difficult time with your son leaving. I'm sure that meant a lot.

Fred, we all need that little reminder and Susan is the one who inspired us all. Hopefully, my article helped reach a few to know that there is a human element out there that need our compassion along with our expertise.

Lou, communication is one of the top 3 most important elements, I think in being a successful person whether in our business or any other. It means whether a relationship grows or dies, and business thrives or fails. I rank communication in my top 3 most important elements in life.

Samantha, small becomes very large...and worth every minute.

Liz, I know. In this day and age it shocked me, too. Email, phoning and texting are such a big part of our lives these days that finding that special card in my mail was awesome. Susan spent the time, to make sure that she reached out and touched me and I can tell you 1st hand that it meant a lot.

Georgina, I'm sure that you meant "Let's NOT forget it." Fast with the typing. Yes, we do work with people and their lives and we need to handle it with care and reach out to touch whether it be a card or a hug or both...the common human touch is so important.

Audrey, isn't Susan special. She reaches out and touches so many. I'm sure it made you feel very special when you received your card...now think how you can touch someone else...Susan gave you a gift of herself when she sent you that card.

Lynda, I think we all forget and especially during these long work days that we have with so many obstacles. It's easy to forget but Susan gave me a sweet gentle reminder with her kind note and card.

Anne Marie, glad that your day ended on a positive note...so very important. Hope you are as inspired as I am to get those cards out to others. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that could use a positive note to end their day, too.

Mike, sometimes little things count much more than the big expensive things...wouldn't you agree?

Teri, absolutely. You're welcome.  Hope it inspires you to do the same.

What a nice touch.  Your post must have hit the spot at the right moment and that is special.  For someone to take the time out and hand write a thank you that is very special as well.  Nice to hear about both.

Thanks for sharing this.     A handwritten note, addressed/stamped, means someone really did appreciate.   A timely reminder to us all.

With all the technology we have created this impersonal business, whereas its foundation was to be personal and based on one and one interaction.

Gena - whata wonderful sentiment expressed in that note, and a powerful reminder us to keep our perspective. It's so easy to forget about hand-written notes in this age of technology...and they are always appreciated.

What a greta reminder, I just seem to run out of time during the day. I told an agent about sending cards a while back and the first one she sent got her a listing. I tought it was Karma. I am just out of the habit.

Nothing will ever replace the impact of a personal, heart-felt, handwritten note.  All communication can be powerful, but few can be as memorable.

Reading through all the comments brings such warmth to my heart. I sent the card to Gena because I really wanted her to know that what she said was special. Now we have lots of people stopping to think and realize how important it is to slow down and show appreciation for each other. This makes me smile and proud to be a part of such a special group of people.

What a great story & a reminder.  A handwritten note is rare these days & I do get them out from time to time.  I would like to send out more handwritten notes - it's a nice touch.

Li, it's so nice to get something that has that special touch.

Jeff, absolutely. I am certainly guilty of not getting my notes out. This was a nice reminder to get back to basics and reach out to touch someone.

Bobby, memories will be all we have someday.

Charles, that was some Karma...but you never know when it may come back to you.

Missy, I too, was so good about doing it for so long but just got busy with all these banks and writing offers one after another that it seems to have been put aside...time to bring the notes back out!

Susan M., I think you are absolutely right!

Susan H. it's amazing isn't it what can come from a gift with no strings...those are always the best kind. Thank you.

Richelle and Bob, it really does mean a lot more than an email which we are so good at these days. Time to get back to what we all use to do before we got so busy...make someone's day!

Hi Gena A well deserved feature on a beautiful post.  It really is an important reminder especially now.  The American public is in the middle of a goverment brow beating with this bail out and a kindness would be extra special to hand out.  It won't cost anything either.
