16 Comments on Call the Commission on Presidential Debates - here's the #
Thanks for the phone number. I just tried to call at 11:27 p.m. Pacific time and the box is full and won't allow me to leave a message. I'll try agian tomorrow, for all the good it will do....
Gene: I wonder if you ever called the "I want to complain because our current president and his party got us into all this mess" hotline and complained. That might have been a better call to make.
By the way... those are very pretty yellow and orange flowers on your blog background. I know very little about the names of flowers. What are they, please ?
Hi Gene - Thanks for posting this. I'm not a member of AR yet, so I couldn't leave a comment on Pacita's post you have linked above, when I read it earlier this evening - I had wanted to leave their phone number and an e-mail address.
From Michelle Malkin's blog, I've got an e-mail address that folks might try, since their voice mail seems to be full. Here's what Michelle had to say - "And here's the e-mail address of Janet H. Brown, Executive Director of the Debates Commission: jb@debates.org"
I found it on her post here, http://michellemalkin.com/2008/09/30/a-debate-%E2%80%9Cmoderator%E2%80%9D-in-the-tank-for-obama/
Karen - Pardon me for saying so, but you look a little silly when you keep professing this mess is the fault of Bush & the Republicans, when everyone knows it's malfeasance on the part of the Dems that caused the housing mess! Even the Left's beloved New York Times saw the problems, back in 1999 - see these 3:
1999 NY Times article explaining concerns that Fannie and Freddie were headed for trouble as a result of relaxing standards - http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0DE7DB153EF933A0575AC0A96F958260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=1

Daniel Mudd addressing Congressional Black Caucus in 2005, calling Obama and Dems the "Family" "Conscience" of Fannie Mae - http://citizenwells.wordpress.com/2008/09/28/obama-fannie-mae-family-cbc-2005-speech-ceo-explains-relationships-campaign-contributions-obama-number-two-recipient-franklin-raines-youtube-video-obama-and-democrat-friends-created-problems/
And from Bloomberg, How the Democrats Created the Financial Crisis - http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aSKSoiNbnQY0
Karen S - One-and-a half years ago the Democrats were voted in control of Congress and claimed they were going to change things. At THAT TIME, interest rates were lower, unemployment lower, the consumer confidence level much higher, inflation lower, the stock market higher and on and on. Look what's happend to all of those numbers since Congress has been controlled by the Democrats. Karen, you're doing like many people and giving the standard Democratic sound bite without checking out the facts. Steve
To think she could/would be fair and unbiased is just crazy. Thanks for the phone number Gene. I'll see if I can get through in the AM.
Thank you for the #, I am going to register my complaint! There is no way this person is going to be unbiased!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But of course, she is a journalist! Should be a 4 letter word!
I'm still speechless. I'm beginning to believe that McCain is a masochist.
It appears that John McCain is bound and determined to run a campaign than never says anything negative about anyone. He may succeed.
It will be a phyrric victory.
He'll be in the U.S. Senate. Gov. Palin will be back in Alaska. Obama will be in the White House and the American Public will be in the toilet.
Fact is, McCain doesn't have to say anything negative about the press. He simply needs to refuse to permit a debate with a moderator with a financial interest in the election outcome.
He thinks Gwenn Ifill will be "fair"??? Geez. Even the NAR took that word out of the COE.
What McCain doesn't understand is that he's throwing the American public into the Lion's Den in order to make himself appear to be purer than pure. Since when was politics pure?????
I couldn't get through on the phone, but I did get to send an e-mail. Just like our Senate, I'm sure they are listening to the people!!!!
Gene your two cents are right on. If McCain doesn't stop being so nice he is going to lose.
Karen Ann - for the record yes I have complained both to the administration and to my legislators when I have a difference of opinion. I am a legislative liaison in my Association and am active in federal issues as well and have never been shy about taking on Republicans or Democrats who do not serve our best interest, which, as you might imagine, is nearly a full time job.
Having said that, I don't completely blame the Democrats for the past 1 1/2 years, nor do I blame the Republicans for the previous 6 1/2 years. You might refer to my 9/29 post on the Trillion Dollar Shakedown that threatens Cities. This traces the inception of many of our current problems to expansion of the Community Reinvestment Act, signed by Carter in 1977 and expanded under Clinton in 1995. This, together with lack of effective oversight has brought us to where we are today. It is provable that Republicans, including John McCain, were sounding alarms back in 2004 about Fannie & Freddie and the dangers we might encounter while Democrats like Barney Frank was claiming he saw no evidence of problems, Maxine Waters was praising Franklin Raines, and other Democrats were more intent on blaming regulators who were cautioning not to extend further credit to unqualified borrowers and particularly minority borrowers, whom, as we have seen, have been especially hard hit by the current housing crisis. The blame is bi-partisan and the solution will need to be as well. But my post was not about that, it was aimed at the travesty masquerading as a moderator for tonights debate. Democrats & Republicans should both be upset about this. Republicans because it is patently unfair, baised and downright inflamatory. Democrats because even if Biden wins the debate hands down, the public will be sidetracked from this by the appearance of impropriety and bias. It's a lose/lose having Gwen Ifill moderate.
The flowers are our California State flower the California Poppy. They grow wild on the hillsides out here and are a brilliant orange for only about 2 weeks in the spring. They are almost impossible (as well as illegal) to try to transplant and they are difficult to cultivate from seed or domesticate. I snagged this photo this spring and it caprtures their delicate & vibrant beauty pretty well if I do say so myself.
Because people are having trouble getting through by phone, try this -
E-mail address of Janet H. Brown, Executive Director of the Debates Commission:
jb@debates.org"
From Michelle Malkin, here - http://michellemalkin.com/2008/09/30/a-debate-%E2%80%9Cmoderator%E2%80%9D-in-the-tank-for-obama/
Jeff - thanks for the email address. The phone has been steady busy again all morning. Must be all the readers of this blog.
Lenn - I agree. The Republicans have so many talking points and so much background on Obama. If nothing else his ties to some of the key figures in the current debacle should make people question his motives and integrity but nobody brings it up. Certainly his fawning media won't mention it but it should be addressed in future debates - if not by the moderator, then by 'honest' John. By trying to appear above the fray and not waging an all-out campaign, McCain is throwing the rest of us to the lions. How did we ever end up here?
We wound up here because anyone who critics Obama is tarred with the Racist label.
He can consort with terrorists, consult with criminals (Franklin Raines) and participate in anti American demonstrations (Church) and get by with it because any critics on the hill will get the label, even if it's untrue.
It's sad. Sad. The next few years are going to be tough.
Osama bin Laden must be sitting in his cave having a big laugh.
I've heard it said the only difference between Obama & Osama is a little b s. My bad.
You are absolutely correct Lenn, as usual. If this were a white Republican with the backgroiund this man has, he would never have made it this far and actually be in contention for the top job. It's also interesting that the only people playing the race card is the Obama camp and now the Gwen Ifill supporters. If we question her ability to moderate a fair and impartial debate it's because we're against a black woman and our first black Presidential candidate. What crap. When I first heard about her conflicts of interest I didn't even know her race - and it doean't matter. I also didn't initially know Franklin Raines was black - but again a crook is a crook regardless of color. There's plenty of crooks of both political persuasions and all colors to go around. These liberals need to get over themselves. It will be a tough few years I'm afraid.
