Maximize Your Drive Time
Tips & Tricks to Ease Your Commute

As the population continues to grow, more and more people will be clogging the highways during your commute. Rather than becoming increasingly frustrated and discouraged, why not use this time to do something productive? There are many ways you can achieve this, and here are some technologies to help you do it.

Have you ever been traveling along and suddenly had a great idea? Since it's generally not safe to jot down notes while driving, make sure you have a digital mini recorder to get those ideas down. Another solution is to put your office voicemail on auto dial and leave messages for yourself.

A great way to utilize your drive time to the fullest is to listen to audio books or enhance your professional development with informational CDs. There's a wide range of options available for download or purchase.

Ooooooooooh, I just have to comment on this one. I always take my laptop computer with me, and if I run into extraordinarily heavy traffic, or if I'm scheduled to return during rush hour, I'll simply pull over into a shopping center, park in an outlying spot, and go to work on my computer, dictating (I use voice recognition software) a report, notes, an Active Rain blog entry, a to-do list for tomorrow, just all sorts of things. With the windows down and the music off, I get to list to Mother and Father nature (remember that I'm parked in an outlying spot, which usually is where the trees and wildlife are, and the cars aren't).

With the proliferation of WiFi hot spots, I can even log onto the Internet, check emails, respond to emails, etc.

One can also buy visor voice records (just like your visor bluetooth phone devices) and dictate to yourself as your driving down the road (providing you can bring yourself to turn The Beatles off on the CD player LOL).

Rather than sitting in traffic for 1½ hours to get home and then taking another 1½ hours to do everything, I just pull over and take 1½ hours to do everything. Then it's a 15-minute drive home and the day's over. Win-win-win.
