Last week our team shot the before episode for a new television show  that will air in the Fall for the Fine Living Network. The house was located in Downingtown in Chester County PA. It was a great experience- the producers, the director and the crew were wonderful to work with and the family that we selected were a dream- they completely understand the need to get their home ready for sale and were willing to do the work it takes to make the best first impression. Below are some shots from the filming and  some before shots of the areas we are staging. Tomorrow we shoot the after and I will post the results. Sorry no pics of me! I forgot to take them.

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for your comments. This has been a very fun project to work on. To answer your questions, I did some on air work for HGTV and Fine Living years ago and I was recently a guest for an XM radio show that talked about staging so the producer had worked with me before and knew that I would be able to meet their demands and deadline and talk coherently on camera.

The family that we used were clients of mine that I had done a consultation for. I got a call from the producers the day after I saw them and knew that they would be great for the show. I made a deal with them that if they let me use their home for the show then I would not charge them for my time to stage and only charge them for monthly accessory rentals- a pretty good deal for them.

We shot the before on Monday and then I went back to actually physically stage the home on Friday.  They wanted me to stage the home on camera but we all know how unglamourous that can be and I did not want shots of myself on my hands and knees steaming window treatments and carrying loads of boxes and gear. The home owners were such a big help- they got a box truck and removed all the items before I got there. My husband (who used to work with me) actually helped me stage the house since his office was closed for Good Friday. He is so amazing and really knows what he is doing.

We shoot the after tomorrow and I will recreate the staging for the camera- only we will know the truth! The show does not air until the fall but I will keep you all posted. KH

Kate,

How exciting and wonderful for you!  Isn't it amazing that all of a sudden we are starting to get calls from TV?  I actually had one from ABC recently, and it was for a Sunday morning Business Show.  The host called me on a Tuesday and then got back to me that Thursday.  Wanted to shoot that day (Thursday) or the next and show me doing an actual staging.  I had a client that I was working with who I thought might be open to the idea, but needed the day (Thursday) to contact her and make the plans.  The host said he would call me back in an hour or so.  When he did he informed me that he could not get a camera crew together and would have to 'table' it for now and would contact me in the summer, when he would have another opportunity to bring up Home Staging on his show.  We shall see....

My friend, Carole Provenzale, who is also an AR member, also received a call from an ABC show who were interested in doing a show about Feng Shui.  Once again, the host couldn't pull it off.

But, at least we're in the running!

I think is just fantastic Kate!  I am a big fan of yours, ever since I read your posts "not for the faint hearted post"  and "staging naked".  There is so much that is NOT glamourous about this job .  Now I just laugh, about the "staging" of staging!  If people only new what we (stagers) are willing to do for THEM to make money!  It is kind of ironic.

Wishing you great success!

OUTSTANDING Kate!!!

So happy to hear of ou getting some well deserved recognition. I did not know you when you were with SHC, but thru some of our acquaintences and your bogs - it is people like YOU that drew me to this occupation. With the drive, passion and talent we all have, Staging will get the credit it is due without explanation.

Please DO post the after shots.  Also, when it comes out, let us know so we can look for it.

YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!  These success stories are wonderful.
