I have often thought of wanting to ask people what have they done lately to make the world a better place?  Be it ever so humble: pick up afteryourself at home, give an encouraging word, talk with young people about personal finance (not going down the road of debt slavery) or someone like Bill Gates who can help form our future.  I wonder if people realize what they do on a daily basis really is what their life is about and do they do anything that makes the world a better place?

what an excellent way to go about it, powerful names behind an excellent cause using the power of social networking... I'm sure the $80K will go fast ;-)

Good Morning Jo,

You are always such a wealth of information! I will check out these 2 charities that you have mentioned as I have never heard of them before. They sound great. I really like the one about helping teenagers become successful. I wish when I was a teenager I had, had a mentor. My best book wasn't until I was in my 40's.

Hi Aaron,

how true...

I think people try to do the most the can, however everyone leads such a hectic life and many people are struggling themselves both financially and emotionally, so it may be harder for some than others.

I feel that those of us who are healthy and strong and have the gift of knowledge and education, need to do our bit to help those less fortunate whenever the opportunity presents itself. One person can and does make a difference.

thanks so much for stopping by!

Marti,

I agree, it's wonderful to see an organization like Squidoo giving back some of what it earns and utilizing social networks to do so.....it gives us the opportunity to all take part in which ever way we can.

hi Trace,

What was the book that touched you deeply when you were in your forties?

It would be wonderful if all teens had a mentor to guide them on the right path....so many have no one and don't know which way to head in and possibly don't even know their own self-worth.
This book and the organizations/people who distribute it,  may help millions of them to lead a better life.

Hi Carole,

I just found out about the first two this past week. Books have been one of the greatest influences on my life so far, and I imagine they will continue to be. Imagine a world with no books!

I'm looking forward to reading your blog action day post.....the day is rapidly approaching and I haven't written mine yet either.

I hope you have a peaceful, productive and happy weekend,

Hi Jo,

It was Law of Attraction and The Secret they went hand in hand for me. Coming from a childhood of a very negative mother and then marrying someone(now Ex) just as negative, I did not realize that I too had a lot of negative feelings.  It was my 2nd husband that pointed out to me that I had a lot of negative thoughts which of course I thought he was crazy me negative??!! But when he started showing me, I understood I was negative. Then reading those books really helped me to see, that the negative I had in my life was from me bring it in. It is funny though that I found my wonderful husband who is not a negative person at all. Hmmmmm.....wonder how I snagged him?! It must have been my girlish figure....oh yes, I already had 3 kids so that was gone.....Must have been my charm! hahaha

Have a great day!

 Trace,

Sorry to be getting back to you on your comment so late.....I've been away much of the week and had company as well...just getting around to reply to comments now.

Your second husband sounds like a very amazing man and I'm glad you met him. It is amazing how negativity spreads and I try my best to be positive about most things in life (although it's not always easy, that's for sure) and avoid negativity as much as possible.

I believe your second husband recognized a wonderful woman when he found one and 'snagged' her before someone else did.  (((-:

Hi Jo,

One seminal book in my teenage years was Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand.  It illustrated the value of being able to enjoy the fruits of our own labor, and the danger to society if those fruits are confiscated.

Those of us who were lucky enough to be introduced early to books by our parents have been given a lifelong gift.

hi Brian,

It's nice to see you dropping by one of my posts!  I read Atlas Shrugged for the first time about 9 years ago...you must have been a very studious young man to have read it as a teenager.  ((-:

I agree, in fact I was thinking today of how lucky we are to all have access to libraries where we can take out books at no cost. We're very lucky here in Canada and the USA. My parents read to me from the time I was still a toddler and introduced me to libraries as well...we are very fortunate indeed!
