The following is a copy of an e-mail I received this morning:

======================================

Here is a quick look into 3 former Fannie Mae executives who have brought down Wall Street.

Franklin Raines was a Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Fannie Mae.  Raines was forced to retire from his position with Fannie Mae  when auditing discovered severe irregulaties in Fannie Mae's accounting activities. At the time of his departure The Wall Street Journal noted, Raines, who long defended the company's accounting despite mounting evidence that it wasn't proper, issued a statement la te Tuesday conceding that 'mistakes were made' and saying he would assume responsibility as he had earlier promised. News reports indicate the company was under growing pressure from regulators to shake up its management in the wake of findings that the company's books ran afoul of generally accepted accounting principles for four years.'  Fannie Mae had to reduce its surplus by $9 billion.

Raines left with a 'golden parachute valued at $240 Million in benefits. The Government filed suit against Raines when the depth of the accounting scandal became clear. http://housingdoom.com/2006/12/18/fannie-charges/ . The Government noted, 'The 101 charges reveal how the individuals improperly manipulated earnings to maximize their bonuses, while knowingly neglecting accounting systems and internal controls, misapplying over twenty accounting principles and misleading the regulator and the public. The Notice explains how they submitted six years of misleading and inaccurate accounting statements and inaccurate capital reports that enabled them to grow Fannie Mae in an unsafe and unsound manner.'  These charges were made in 2006.  The Court ordered Raines to return $50 Million Dollars he received in bonuses based on the miss-stated Fannie Mae profits.

Tim Howard -  Was the Chief Financial Officer of Fannie Mae. Howard 'was a strong internal proponent of using accounting strategies that would ensure a 'stable pattern of earnings' at Fannie. In everyday English - he was cooking the books.  The Government Investigation determined that, 'Chief Financial Officer, Tim Howard, failed to provide adequate oversight to key control and reporting functions within Fannie Mae,'

On June 16, 2006, Rep. Richard Baker, R-La., asked the Justice Department to investigate his allegations that two former Fannie Mae executives lied to Congress in October 2004 when they denied manipulating the mortgage-finance giant's income statement to achieve manag ement pay bonuses. Investigations by federal regulators and the company's board of directors since concluded that management did manipulate 1998 earnings to trigger bonuses. Raines and Howard resigned under pressure in late 2004.

Howard's Golden Parachute was estimated at $20 Million!

Jim Johnson -   A former executive at Lehman Brothers and who was later forced from his position as Fannie Mae CEO.   A look at the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight's May 2006 report on mismanagement and corruption inside Fannie Mae, and you'll see some interesting things about Johnson. Investigators found that Fannie Mae had hidden a substantial amount of Johnson's 1998 compensation from the public, reporting that it was between $6 million and $7 million when it fact it was $21 million.'   Johnson is currently under investigation for taking illegal loans from Countrywide while serving as CEO of Fannie Mae.

Johnson's Golden Parachute was estimated at $28 Million.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

FRANKLIN RAINES? Raines works for the Obama Campaign as Chief Economic Advisor

TIM HOWARD?  Howard is also a Chief Economic Advisor to Obama

JIM JOHNSON?  Johnson hired as a Senior Obama Finance Advisor and was selected to run Obama's Vice Presidential Search Committee

IF OBAMA PLANS ON CLEANING UP THE MESS - HIS ADVISORS HAVE THE EXPERTISE - THEY MADE THE MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE.   Would you trust the men who tore Wall Street down to build the New Wall Street ?

Terry ~ Now you are putting out too much truth in this post. The Christopher Dodd's and the Barney Frank's won't want you to get away with this . There is going to be an investigation and Christopher Dodd will be in charge. It is like putting the mafia in charge of a sting operation of their own family.

I am really interested in you stating your source for your above statement. I can not find anything to support your allegation that Raines works for Obama as Chief Economic Advisor or advised him in any capacity.

I read the entire article in the Washington Post where Raines had stated to a reporter when asked if he had ANY contact with the Democratic party that he had "taken  a couple calls earlier this year from Barack Obama's presidential campaign seeking his advice on general questions on mortgage and housing policy matters." ( 2 questions to be exact)

Raines said in the statement through the campaign, "I am not an advisor to Barack Obama, nor have I provided his campaign with advice on housing or economic matters."

Obama spokesman Bill Burton added an attack basically stated that this is another flat-out lie from a dishonorable campaign that is increasingly incapable of telling the truth. Frank Raines has never advised Senator Obama about anything -- ever. And by the way, someone whose campaign manager and top advisor worked and lobbied for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac shouldn't be throwing stones from his seven glass houses.

I read everything on Fact check

and the gist of their statement is that the McCain campaign is clearly exaggerating wildly in attempting to depict Franklin Raines as a close adviser to Obama on "housing and mortgage policy." If we are to believe Raines, he did have a couple of telephone conversations with someone in the Obama campaign. But that hardly makes him an adviser to the candidate himself -- and certainly not in the way depicted in the McCain video release

"(Raines) has never been a close adviser to Obama."

On Politico. com I read that the McCain campaign now states it never said Raines is an advisor to Obama. They state the only description in the ad of the Obama-Raines connection simply states he has been advised by Raines before. Meaning the one telephone conversation the first of the year before he even won the party's nomination.

You may want to read Political Buzz a non partisen site for truth on both sides as to thier take on McCain's ad; Political Buzz it is also very informative and disputes your statement.

The above are MY comments in it's entirety. I did NOT copy and paste.

The only thing missing in the blog entry is the obligatory photo of Raines to reinforce the point that Raines is not white....and Obama is not white,,,,, take a lesson on how it's down from Raleigh....when he covered these same ponts.....

Real Estate Blog - Obama and ties to the housing"crisis"....

Raleigh deleted my posts on his blog. Are all of the conservatives who post about political issues at activerain, rascists, or does it just seem like it, sometimes? Here is an alternate POV about all of this:

National Review asks: Did WaMu fail because it employed minorities ...

Apologies, in advance, if you don't realize how your points come off to others.....

Your post simply passes on an untrue email which has been circulating. Here is a link to the snopes.com article refuting it. McCain's campaign and way too many supporters have been passing along blatantly false information. I hope you will read the article and stop doing the same. Try checking out snopes.com or factcheck.org for the truth.

Leslie,

You are 100% right I just posted about this and gave snoopes as one of the sources. All News agencies have now debunked this email including the McCain Campaign itself.

Terry, In all fairness to you many on this site have been caught up in what this email said along with many not on this site.

all I can suggest is I google EVERYTHING I read on this Site and validate what everyone says.

I want to make a decision based on as much Truth as I can find. Obviously we will never know all the truth.
