One of the most important issues to address in your own personal wellness is stress. It seems to be a very common experience in our society today. But honestly, how can you not be stressed when you consider the times we live in?
Every day, you are constantly bombarded with information about the doom and gloom within our world. Not only that, but also the stresses of all the responsibilities we have in making life happen.
Let me share with you what I have been sharing with all of my clients. It is important to learn a form of meditation, self-hypnosis, or other relaxation method to manage stress because it will inhibit your ability to learn and form long-term memories.
This is why we so often refer back to an emotional state of consumption when it comes to eating. Our stress is prohibiting us from being able to form new behaviors and create long-term memories of these healthy behaviors. When we are stressed, depressed, or carrying the weight of a past traumatic experience, our brains are releasing a stress hormone called "glucocorticoid."
This hormone has recently been discovered as a culprit in killing cells in the part of our brain known as the hippocampus. The release of glucocorticoid in our hippocampus hinders its ability to make synaptic connections in the neural networks that makes learning and precise long-term memory possible. It can actually lead to memory loss.
This is a key reason behind our ability to apply what we already know about weight-loss and wellness. We have to first address the stresses of our lives in a productive way in order to allow our brains to go to work for us. Besides utilizing meditation and hypnosis to accomplish deeper states of relaxation and awareness; it is also a good idea to become conscious of the consumption of information.
A key to my own personal transformation came when I decided to shut off the television. In the last two years of my life, I have found this to be one of the most valuable things I have ever done.
