Job Supply/Demand Rate ChartThe latest Conference Board Press Release (Dated October 1, 2008) shows some areas of the country where the number of available jobs exceeds the number of unemployed. One of those cities (the one at the top!) is Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Conference Board reports that "35 of [the] top 52 Metro areas post over-the-year declines in job demand." Those living in the Salt Lake City area have a lot to be greatful for. The real estate "boom" here started late and ended early when consumers saw surrounding areas starting to bust. Home values have held fairly flat, which is pretty good under the circumstances nationwide. People and companies still relocate here because of the many benefits that come from living in the area.

If you are moving to the Salt Lake City area, buying a home still makes sense in most cases.

Those look like fairly good statistics. News week says that Salt Lake City is to be bottoming at the second to third  quarter of 2010. If anything I would belive that is nothing of a huge shock inprices because people in Salt Lake City have been pretty conservative with their home peices and appreciation rates.

Am I correct?

So WDC is right behind? 

Interesting considering the 100% rise in prices in the 2003-2006 years.  We do, however, and always have had good job numbers.

Tom - Salt Lake City was saved by being late (in my opinion). Just like everywhere else, when the boom was in full swing people started getting greedy and ridiculous. We really were saved from going too far by having nearby markets crashing around us (Phoenix, Las Vegas, California, etc.) before we got too wild and crazy. I consider us lucky. Not all buyers (or Buyer's Agents) were willing to walk away from ridiculous Sellers like we were during those times.

Lenn - Washington DC may be ahead in some respects. I focused only on one part of the report, the Supply/Demand aspect. Salt Lake ranked well in other areas, but Washington DC ranked well in more areas total. Personally, I'd rather live and work here. I'd LOVE to go back and VISIT the DC area again though. I have good friends and colleagues who live there and I really like the history and architecture there.
