I admit I'm bad about coming home, throwing off the work clothes and putting on the oldest, ugliest but most comfortable clothing in the house. While doing this, I put my cell phone on a shelf and often walk out and leave it on the shelf.
Today was one of those days. When I checked to see if I had any messages, I had a missed call. I quickly dialed the number with intentions of apologizing for my negligence.
The phone says, "Please enjoy the music while waiting for your party to answer the phone," or something very much like that. Then the awful music starts and continues and continues....
Finally a voice says, "This is Joe's wife. Please leave a message."
At that time, I thought that perhaps I really didn't want to talk to these people after all but politely I said I was returning a call.
I am still aghast that folks would do this to a person calling. What do you think about it?
Barbara - If someone calls my phone and doesn't leave a message, I figure it is probably not important. If they wanted to speak with me, they could leave a message saying so. I really don't worry about missed calls. Life is too short.
I very seldom return a call if they don't leave a message as they usually only want info out of curiosity and are never serious. As for the music sometimes thats better than speaking with the caller that I shouldn't have called back.
To each his own. I certainly don't think music is appropriate for a business cell phone unless it's very neutral. I rarely return a missed call if someone does not leave a message unless it's a number I recognize.
Barbara - I usually hang up if I get that music. I've never had it happen where it wasn't a solicitor. BTW - Funny, I came home tonight at 8pm and all I wanted to do was get in my jams! I can relate to that feeling of having to get comfy and cozy after a long day!
This often happens as offices forward calls to their cell phones. Sometimes this is how they connect. I guess I'm not sure why this offends you. I do agree that I typically don't call someone back if they don't leave me voicemail...
Carol, I've never gotten into the pajama-comfort. Mine is more like old floppy pants or shorts and an oversized shirt. I shouldn't hung up on that music.
Melissa, this music doesn't come from an office. You'll get one on your phone someday and you'll holler like me! LOL Someone answered another blog and said that people actually PAY to put that music on the phone.
My boss gets really miffed when he calls someone and gets the "enjoy" the music routine. It is always some tinny song that sounds like a caged squirrel.
Barbara-That garbage drives me crazy-It's never music you would want to hear it's always loud and obnoxious! I remember when people would play music on their voice mail then say their junk-that wasn't quite as bad b/c it didn't take near as long!
An agent in my office has that very same message on her phone. I think it has something to do with the carrier service and not the individual. But I agree, I do not want to enjoy the music while my party is being reached. I want to hear their voice. That's why I called them.
Like you, Barbara, I also dress in pretty much rags when I'm not working. Sometimes I have to call my cell from our land line to find it.
Amanda, you're right. It is awful music. I think they're rude to do that. How's business in Beebe?
Elizabeth, super organized you having to call to find your phone makes me feel better! I also hate calling a business person's phone and getting a generic message because you really don't know whether you reached the right person or not. Tell me who you are, PLEASE!!
I don't even understand the concept of a ring back tone at all. Everyone enjoys a certain kind of music, but why would someone choose a song they enjoy and force everyone that calls them to listen to it?? The person who puts this music on his phone doesn't even get to hear it unless he calls his own phone! Like I said, I don't even grasp the purpose of these things.
I don't mind the ring back tones when it's just a client I'm calling. It's a little goofy, but whatever. :) I do, however, find it unprofessional for agents to use them.
Hi Jennifer. Your points are so valid! You would have to call your own phone!! So therefore the music must be a form of punishment for the ones calling in.
Kristina, you are a laid-back type person. I'm the hyper type who wants the phone call to be quick and efficient. Therefore, it drives me a little batty.
Barbara - I do believe it is the carrier and I really don't care for it. Either answer the phone or take me directly to voice mail, don't make me wait. A lot of younger folks that I deal with have this type of service.
However, I have had a few "profesionals" who also have this service. Certainly doesn't give me much confidence in their professionalism.
Maybe that was the MILLION DOLLAR DEAL......Ok I'll admit it's a pain in the *** when you call and hear some loud disturbing funky out of control music -------Then a voice mail recording because they don't answer. So I think I just sat thru 30 seconds of HELL for what ????????????????????????
