Splashing in the Rain!

By
Managing Real Estate Broker with Windermere Peninsula Properties

How many Agents or companies out there- do you think know, that the way they represent themselves, and what they share about other companies reflects on all of us. Just like splashing in a puddle the water- it will hit any one near.

The reason I mention this is that in the current market (as competitive as it is) we all still need to speak well of each other, because it reflects on our industry as a whole.

I was told by one of my listed clients today that when they stopped by a nearby real estate office, that the agent they spoke with had nothing nice to say about our area. They mentioned that they do not even sell real estate in our county. Our counties border each other in fact my client's house is 10 minutes from the county line, and this office shared my offices franchise name. I would have expected him to have mentioned how nice our area is, and that my client is listed with a great company, and that he would love to sell it if he got the chance. I would have done that for him.

In short with the challenges of today's market I think we should all do our best to speak well of each other and support those clients- yours or mine, that are trying to buy and sell today. Not tearing each other apart, but being supportive will not only help other agents out, but will do a favor to the entire industry, and all of our clients.

Probably they just was saying something to be saying something and unfortuately they just don't think. But they would probably denyit took place if asked and would be offended.

Dinah, I always say that our profession is synonimous with competition but we must work with each other and not against each other including the areas that we farm or not. Those areas that they do not specialize in are other realtors areas in which they work hard to sell as well. It goes to show that they are blockbusting.

That is a real shame.  I have come across a few of those types of agents.  Either they bad mouth an area or other realtor to try to impress upon themselves and their idea that they are the best agent in the best area.  I usually close my mouth and remember that person for the future.  When someone wants a referral for that area, I make sure that particular agent is never on a list I would give to anyone with my name on it.

Dinah~  It's sometimes hard to know where someone else is 'coming from'. Perhaps their dog got run over or the baby is sick... We can't control how others decide to behave. Maybe later he realized "Geeze, I was a jerk to say that."  Just keep in mind Do unto others & it works out alright.

HI DINAH!

It all boils down to what our parents taught us when we were children.  If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.  I know that can be hard sometimes, but I've learned to bridle (is that the right word?) my tongue.

I figure, I want folks to speak nicely of me, so why not do the same!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Some people just are not positive thinkers.  It is the worst when they are in your office and have nothing good to stay.  Great post and hopefully people will get the message to stay positive!

Hi Dinah,

Great point ... I agree, we need to be "ambassadors" for the communities in which we sell property.  People look to us for professionalism and market knowledge, if an agent is not up to the task, maybe they should be in sales.

Best regards,
Mike

Its a dog eat dog world out there, especially in a tough market where there are not as many deals out there.  Too bad that person had such negative comments.

I don't see how tearing each other a part will accomplish anything other than to make all of us look less professional.

Dinah...it is a Ripple effect....like you said stepping in a puddle, it splashes...I have always said it is like a drop of rain in the water...it ripples out and can affect many....it amazes me ... why say anything if it wasn't gonna be nice... 'talk the Faith and walk the Talk!

Gobble up on Thanksgiving!

I think that's just plain stupid and shows the agent's insecurity and unprofessionalism.  The buyers can see right through that approach.  Shame on them.

Good thought here.  Just as we should speak well of others, the media should try and speak well of our industry as a whole.  Perhaps that would turn things around sooner than later.

Public service is number one.

We all like to use this term in one way or another, but it becomes painfully clear who realy believes in it when someone goes around bad mouth-in other agents in the same profession.

Do the these agents really think they are making themselves look better to everyone listening to them. They sound stupid and bitter, yuk. Who wants to work with someone like that. Still every office has the yakked yakking agent that gets excited at the first sign of trouble for another. You know the one that cant wait to talk about something stupid some else did.If that person leaves they never really liked them anyway. We are all imperfect and involved in a potentially complex profession. We all make mistakes.   We all have a lot of great qualities to speak of. Talking bad of someone else is the least intelligent thing you can do for yourself.

Make a point of saying something nice about 5 agents a day. Within one month you will be rewarded way beyond your efforts. Go ahead I dare all of you. It works and it makes you feel good to, plus people will like you much more. Let go of the paranoia and betterness, not everyone is out to get you.

Getting more training will also build inner confidence.

I liked the folks speaking earlier about doing nice things for people in our lives that are positive, honest, and hardworking.  Let's support the positive and redirect the negative.  Turning around someone's comment about someone or some place can be rechannelled if we try.
