Just this morning I was commenting to Paddy Pizzapi (in a blog post) that today was going to be an interesting day. Little did I know just how wildly interesting it would become. I took my minions to work today. They braved a brewing storm to do two open houses with their Mama. We got in a little late, played a few games, ran from the Minion Blur's love taps and engaged in Gigglefest. The boys had a big day and actually fell asleep early. Yay! So here I am chilling, sitting in my home office checking my in-box, e-mail and listening to my voice mail when a message from the lovely A. Jin pops up to inform me she is a Canadian relocating to New York City and could I please return her call.

Wow... Paddy wrote a very interesting post just this morning entitled "Take A Chance On This One? What The Heck, Go For It!" Paddy was in the process of acquiring an overseas prospect interested in moving to Orange County from Israel as a direct result of her blogging on Active Rain. Very cool. I was reading this post when my Canadian message played and I  found myself laughing at the fact that God definitely has a sense of humor. The timing of this really knocked me for a loop and I found myself thinking, "Oooo, I get an international prospect too? What are the odds of that? Too funny!"

I love irony. I immediately became distracted with laughter, didn't submit my comment on Paddy's post and promptly replayed my messages thinking that I might be getting spoofed by Mandycap. She's good. I have to be very careful. She fooled Richard and he's a lot smarter than I am. Believe you me, that little understatement says a lot (LOL). On the second go around I paid really close attention to the caller's accent while checking the area code on-line and oh my word - a legitimate number. My brain stopped working for a whole minute.

Wow...

My mouth dropped open. It's a real number from Canada. Hmm... what a yummy thought...

The only Canadian I know is the gorgeous Liz Moras and she lives all the way over on the other side. This is not a Pacific Coast spoof! So of course I had to immediately call Melody Botting and my Canadian gal pal Liz, after all, it is an Active Rain Canadian relocation. How do I know? It's where the majority of my Google juice comes from. Gotta share the good news with my Club Chaos girlfriends and the rest of the CC family after I confirm where the prospect got my number from. I am soooo excited! I'm like a little kid when I start Skyping people. I can stay on that thing all day while I am blogging with my headset on. The ladies and I had mad fun doing a quickie catch up game of phone tag and then I returned my prospect's call ready to handle her business once I realized it was a serious call and no one was prankin' me.

What a sweet woman. I was very happy to enjoy our brief but most delightful conversation. What an interesting accent! I wonder what a native New Yorker sounds like to a Canadian... hmm... but I digress... :-)  After conducting a brief preliminary interview to discover what the family required, being the Curious George Realtor that I am, of course I had to ask, "how on earth did you find me?" I don't know why I was surprised to hear it, I expected it, assumed it to be true, but knew there was always the possibility that it just might be a referral... Woo-hoo! Ding, ding, ding! I was very pleased to discover she found me right here on-line. I guess I just didn't realize the Canadians were paying me any attention (LOL). How cool is that? I think it is absolutely awesome!

I love Richard Weisser's post about blogging being his business plan. I am so down with the AR-Blog program, SEO and getting on board with great ideas from veterans like him. I am happy to report that I absolutely love sharing my thoughts with my friends and having AR adventures with my children. Blogging about life and real estate is very easy to do when you care about your subject matter and the people you choose to share yourself with.

I love Active Rain. For me, it is all about the relationships and sharing ideas. I brag that you guys are my "mastermind group" and Club Chaos is my personal think tank (LOL). I have always believed that networking follows eventually (when people get to know a little bit about you and become comfortable with what they experience and learn). I do not know how long this family has been planning to relocate. I do know that with over 4 million Realtors the Jin family selected me. What an honor. I am so looking forward to starting a new set of friendships with this family. They are driving down from Canada tonight and we will be spending a little time together tomorrow and Saturday.

I feel like giving my pal Richard a virtual high five and sticking my digital tongue out at that rude agent who belittled his wonderful posts, business model, SEO efforts and dedication to blogging. It's positive moments like this that make me wonder why so many professionals who don't understand the benefits of blogging and Search Engine Optimization feel the need to attack us. Blogging is a crucial business practice.  Google popped me right to the top of the list because of my Club Chaos activities (not to mention following the Amanda Hall rules of serial commenting - LOL).

Thank you AR Dudes (and Claire).

(BTW, the little minions 8, market reports 2, just in case you are following along with Paddy P and keeping score of my 2008 AR client stats.) I can not imagine living without my Club Chaos family, my R.E. Coach and accountability partner, my AR Mentors, my Localism blog, my Outside Blog, Mixpo and Active Rain. They all link back to TannStarr.com and have helped me revise my business model as an independent contractor so I can rise to a higher level of  inter-dependent networking.

I know what's driving my marketing plan. Hey Anti-Blogger, what's driving yours?

Carolyn - So happy for you!  Don't you love seeing results of your hard work?  If you have a minute, check out my ChaCha post that I just did - it really shows how AR works for us.

I got a call from a Canadian in Calgary last spring who saw my blog - turns out they love our golf courses and there are 4 couples who want to buy here - sick of not getting rooms in our busy season.  This stuff works - I am trying to be more consistent and cover more topics, reblog has helped me deliver more types of info on my blog - staging, loan info, etc - I have reblogged 3 X with great google results.

C - minions, Canucks and sharing fortune with your AR and CC friends. Way to go girl.

10/03/2008 06:29 AM by Mike Saunders (Keller Williams Realty - Greater Athens)

Carolyn...

Whoo-hoo, how do I start to comment on all this:

1) I am flattered to be mentioned, you are very kind to do so. I work hard on my AR presence (as do you) and the best part is meeting all of the nice people around the WORLD that I would have otherwise never had the pleasure of interaction!

2) Amanda is so good, that I thunk that it's hilarious that you would immediately suspect her of subterfuge. My guess is that she worked for the CIA at some point and was probably fired for being too good at her job.

3) Wow, when the kids are asleep, you can really let it fly! Your words translate to: I'm alone, I have time, I will write!"

4) I still consider the tremendous success of Club Chaos as directly attributable to you and your endless energy. You should feel very proud of what you have done here. You are a unifier, and an inspiration!

So hopefully, we will all continue down this road together, it's been a great trip so far!

Thanks for the links Sis.  That is too cool.  Last night the office manager at my broker's office sent me a list of blog topics (I guess he if finally seeing value in it.  He was the one that was saying but are you getting any business out of it? in the beginning.)  Good luck and have a great weekend.  We are heading to Six Flags tomorrow for a dance thing and Fright Fest.

BTW, Those nephews of mine are sure advanced.  My son did not start borrowing the car until last year.  JK, I hope you had your hands on the keys!

Virginia, thank you so much for the heads up on the ChaCha post. Very cool, indeed! BTW, you've been featured at CC, sweetie. Enjoy your day. <3 C.

Thank you, Cher. Flicking the hazard lights and getting to "drive" during the slow moments of an open house is one of their favorite treats! (LOL) I'm glad you enjoyed the little minions. :-)

10/03/2008 07:53 AM by C Tann-Starr (TannStarr.com TannStarr.ws REMAX People Realty)

Thank you, Valerie. I could hardly sleep last night. I've been reading through listings like crazy. I am very much looking forward to meeting them. :-)

Hey Big Mike, I love sharing with my CC family. Makes it all worth while. I love all of the interesting perspectives (not to mention all of that cool love and teasing going on). Sometimes you all actually know something before my mother does. :-D

10/03/2008 07:58 AM by C Tann-Starr (TannStarr.com TannStarr.ws REMAX People Realty)

You said a mouthful and thanks for the mention.  Who knows what a few hours in the rain will bring you?  BTW-  If you ever wondered what you sound like to a Texan all I have to say is, "Naut for nuthin'."

10/03/2008 07:58 AM by Melody Botting Real Estate Network

Carolyn ~ This is great!  Congratulations! How funny though that you had to be sure it wasn't a prank.  As for the accent, whenever we would travel/vacation out of state people would always say "Are you from New York?".  Be proud of your accent, Carolyn, be proud! : )

10/03/2008 08:00 AM by Kathy Passarette, L.I. Staging/Decorating (Creative Home Expressions)

Richard, I'm speechless... thank you so much for your kind words. Our groups are awesome! We have so many of the same members and they all ROCK! I love Whacked and a host of other groups and CC is like icing on the AR cake for me. You guys are my bay-bays (LOL).

Jeremy gave me a great idea about featuring the Chaotic Member of the Moment and I have been working on some interesting graphics to try and make it come all come together in a unique way. I just have to figure out if it will be a toast, roast, or both (ROTFL). May even throw in a mini-Mixpo commercial about the recipient in there. What ever it is, it's gotta be just as much fun as the members. You know how much I love my eye candy and a good giggle. :-)

10/03/2008 08:26 AM by C Tann-Starr (TannStarr.com TannStarr.ws REMAX People Realty)

C - great blog and great luck. Love the pictures of the kids. Remember to remove the keys because they look like they are ready to go with you or without you.

Mel, too funny! Isn't it strange how people with an accent think everyone else has one except them? (ROTFL)

10/03/2008 08:29 AM by C Tann-Starr (TannStarr.com TannStarr.ws REMAX People Realty)

Kathy, I am very proud of my Brooklyn twang with a Queens twist. People in Queens have even asked me where I am from  (ROTFLMBO).

10/03/2008 08:32 AM by C Tann-Starr (TannStarr.com TannStarr.ws REMAX People Realty)

C - Oh! Oh! Sometimes you all actually know something before my mother does. :-D. I hope your mother doesn't read this blog!

10/03/2008 08:33 AM by Mike Saunders (Keller Williams Realty - Greater Athens)

Paddy, you should see Noah drive when we let him have the car on the middle of the SC fields. That kid can get his game face on when plowing through seven plus acres. He's crazy about the tractor my Dad has but runs from the riding mowers (LOL).

Hmm... a list of blog topics, eh? Very interesting and very, very cool. It's a step in the right direction. It's just a shame the broker didn't decide to personally blog about those topics given to you. I am still working on my office but its like pulling teeth. I want them to have just as much fun as I am and get the benefits to boot but I guess some people are just not ready to change their personal work habits. Oh well, I'm game, so I guess I will just have to respect their position and decisions. I love Google juice... :-)

10/03/2008 08:44 AM by C Tann-Starr (TannStarr.com TannStarr.ws REMAX People Realty)

Big Mike, I actually send out links and everybody reads it. My sister actually joined just so she could leave one single comment regarding her nephews and never wrote another line in AR ever again. Recently, my sister in-law pulled pictures off of the Bluebery Festival mixpo video to send to her parents who complained that they couldn't open the link in WebTV. The funny thing to me is most of my friends and family don't answer in the forum, they send me personal e-mails about what ever they have read or the photographs they have enjoyed. I guess they don't want to mess with me while I am at "work" (LOL). Blogging is an awesome way for people to keep up with you when family is spread across multiple states. My mom actually asked me to send more pictures of the boys to my brother so they could run over and see them. They don't seem to mind who gets to see anything I write and post first, just as long as they get to see it for themselves, which is very cool. :-)

10/03/2008 08:57 AM by C Tann-Starr (TannStarr.com TannStarr.ws REMAX People Realty)

Robin, you have no idea how very true your words are (ROTFL). I have got to keep the keys with me at all times. The minions like to drive. Stephen is the co-pilot cranking the gears, window wipers, directional signals and flicking the lights while Noah is master of the wheel. They both fight over the radio, though... go figure. It can be a bit much when you have two kids sitting in your lap going 5 mph in a bumpy field. The cool aid grins are definitely worth it! :-)

Hi Carolyn, WOW< That's just incredible, it is NOT incredible that you got the client from AR but it was the timing!! Congrats and I love Richard, I am not in RE but staging, cabin rentals and insurance and blogging is important for any biz. Just had a friend walk by my office saying I "play" on the internet all day.. I said Yep, I am blessed and do a great deal of my business online. God bless,

Cheryl G, that is awesome and as far as I am concerned Stagers are in Real Estate. You are part of our industry and help us move inventory. I'm looking forward to learning a lot about it from everyone here. I can't wait to get together and pick Kathy P's brain at my office. :-)

...or would I?

LOL!  Okay, so my Google Alert went off AND I now realize that I have to set an alert up for Mandycap, too.  How cool is that?

Congrats on your new client--whew hew!  Good for you!
