Faberge egg from Florida International Museum St Petersburg Florida

Happy Easter, Maureen and Dmitry,

I've been on your site, and enjoyed the beautiful colors of all your Easter eggs. Noting that you were missing a Faberge egg, I wanted to send you one. So, I spent about 20 minutes searching for a non-copyrighted photo on the web, all in vain. Then I suddenly remembered that I had one - at least a photograph of one - framed on the wall in my living room (how's that for being dense?).

I couldn't figure out how to add this photo to a comment on your blog, so am posting it here for you, and will link to it from my comment in your blog.

This egg was here in St. Petersburg for the opening exhibit of the Florida International Museum, Treasures of the Czars. I've been on the Board of Directors there for over a decade, and was one of the founding members. A group of us were fortunate enough to travel to Russia and see both the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and the Kremlin Museum in Moscow, so I was able to see more Faberge eggs than just this one.

What a beautiful egg, Sharon. I love the Faberge eggs too. Like you, I have seen them at the Hermitage and at the Kremlin. But the best exhibit was actually in the states many years ago. Malcolm Forbes collection. How cool that you are on the Board of Directors of the Art Museum! Thank you very much for the special Easter greeting. Happy Easter to you and your family.

Happy Easter to you also, Sharon, from snowy Northern Michigan. And thank you for sharing the wonderful Faberge egg with us all. It sounds like you had a wonderful trip to Russia. I took Russian for two years in college, but haven't quite made it there yet.

Margaret - thanks. We do get some wonderful opportunities in life.

James - sorry, my Naked Diet doesn't allow any candy, Easter or otherwise.

Maureen - wasn't it great to visit Russia? I'd go back to St. Petersburg any day, but one tour of Moscow - though wonderful - was enough.

Stefan - I hired a Russian tutor for a while before I went to Russia - could make out the street signs and some very basics, but not conduct a conversation. Since then, I've lost even that.

Kaye - I'm sure yours are beautiful, too, if not so elaborate. Few of us could afford to have Faberges in our own collection.

I worked in Moscow for a while, travelling in on business trips. When they asked me to move there I decided I did not want to be a management consultant any more.
