The measuring stick for most companies (and is'nt that what we are?) is how you stand at this point in the year compared to last year and the previous years. Unfortunately many of us do not want to look at the results, much as like opening your stock portfolio, YIKES! It is what it is, take a look and see how you are doing, the measuring stick can be brutal this year. But, this is something we all must do, to compare your results with someone else really has no merit. I took a look at our company in June and we were off 35% from a year age, ouch... A funny thing thing has happened since then, now we are off by 20%, maybe we'll pull this year off after all. I never considered myself as competing against other brokers or agents, I'm competing against our prior years and projections. Try not to get all caught up in, "I'm right where all the others are at this point". That's not going to make it. I know it is ugly, but, take a look at where you stand, and what you need to do. Anyway, that's my opinion, Good Luck!

6 Comments on You Do Not Want To Do It, I Know It Is Ugly, But, Have You Checked Your Numbers?

Frank & Jodi -

We have similar numbers up here in Chicago.  Less down, but still frustrating!

Stay the course - think how much you have learned in tenacity, and efficiency, this year.

Take those lessons and make future years better years.

Actually many companies claim that they are tops in a market, and if you skew the numbers you can make anything look good.

You made me look at my own figures and I am ahead for this time last year, made me feel great!

Thank you!

Hi Frank thanks for the post. Yes this year stinks but it is what it is and what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Enjoy these great fall days

Frank - You make an excellent point here.  The goal of business is increasing shareholder return.  In this case, we are the shareholders and if we are not making more money (or laying a solid foundation to do so in the future), then something better change.

This year may not have been the greatest, but it can be used as a benchmark for having a great next year. Now is the time to get out those business plans and revising them for 2009. Good Post!

Dean - Yes, the numbers are a reality pill, but, it is what it is...

Caren - Good for you! Not many of us can say that..

Charlie - You're right about the weather, played golf today Lol

Erik - Excellant point, when you incorporate you buy your own stock!

Michael - Yes, many of us will say in the future, hey, at least it's not 2008!!!
