In 2006, the United States Patent & Trademark Office moved from the Crystal City area of Arlington to Alexandria, Virginia. Close to 9,000 employees were transferred to the new headquarters on the western end of Old Town Alexandria in the Carlyle development between Duke Street and Eisenhower Avenue.

As with any shift of employees from one location to another, this move was followed by the development of lots of additional infrastructure within the Carlyle area, including new restaurants, offices, small parks, shops, a hotel, and several new residential projects, including condos and rental apartments.

If you haven't driven by the area recently, you may not even recognize the Carlyle area. From the stone lions on Duke Street marking the entrance to large offices and eateries lining the streets, the Carlyle area of Old Town Alexandria is worth a visit.

Carlyle Towers, three large condominum towers located at 2121, 2151, and 2181 Jamieson Avenue are the original inhabitants of the Carlyle area. Recently, these condos have been joined by condos at The Royalton (above Whole Foods grocery on Duke Street), Carlyle Square Condos, and Jamieson Condos (79 condos above the new Westin Hotel).
Here's a sampling of some currently available condos in the Carlyle area:
