This two party system may have been adequate for previous centuries, but it is time for a new and improved Government 2.0 version, don't you agree?
Germany, France, UK, Belgium, Italy and many others all have multi-party systems. Some of these countries score higher than us on various quantifying tests, including the standard of living test.
I have to give credit to an agent here on AR. I plagiarized his little elephant-donkey. I copied it in a hurry and thought that I had subscribed to his blog, but no, I haven't. I tried very hard to find him this morning, but couldn't. I loved the figure and I don't know who to give credit for it. If the rightful owner will come forward, I will be glad to mention him in the blog (and ask permission to use the cute "ele-donk".
Mirela....I totally agree with you, I am tired of this two party system, as well, but wheneverthere is a third man or woman running--they don't win and those who vote for the third guy/gal just throw away their vote....How do we change this and can it be done? May be we need to start at the local government and then to the State government and then maybe it will filter up to the Federal government!

Mirela, after visiting several of these countries I am not so sure we're ready for a Parliamentary form of government where the party in control elects the leader, I guess it couldn't get much worse... Congress has more recess than an elementary school...
Aida: I am no constitutional scholar, but I'm sure there are experts out there who could figure out exactly how it can be done. I think it's worth discussing.
Technology has pushed us to such new levels that both the economic and political systems have become so... 1.0...
hehe... love the Donkephant picture Mirela! I don't think that many people fit COMPLETELY into the Republican or Democrat boxes, but this may be a tough nut to crack.
Some states have embraced the idea of the Independent voter, allowing them to participate in the primary elections... but some states like NC (where I live) don't allow Independents to participate in the primaries. Since Independents are sort of treated like 2nd class citizens in NC, many people just give in & affiliate with a party and then vote for who they think would do the best job (regardless of their party) in the general election. There have been attempts to break the two party system... but there hasn't been much success yet!
Mirela - At this point, our political system seems nothing more than a thinly veiled monopoly. In my opinion, a meaningful and competitive third party is long overdue.
Mirela - With the power of AR behind us now, and search engine optimization, we can all band together and start a grass roots effort to add a party that holds more to the middle ground than to the left or to the right...something a bit more balanced. That's my thought on the subject...LoL! Who better than Realtors and other industry Professionals? We all have contact with homeowners/families across America. ~ Greg ~
One day a truly outstanding leader will emerge from the morass and truly capture the spirit of a country fed up with the paralysis of todays 2 party circus - especially with both parties equally corrupt and venal. But it's getting harder and harder with each passing year and most recent 3rd party attempts have just been laughable, which makes it harder still. The best hope is if the far left Democrats split off and form the Socialist Party, the far right Republicans split off and form the Conservative Party, and vast middle class would become Ele-donks or Republicrats or Independents or something. Naw, that'd never work.
I still like H. Ross. You can see his current array of colorful charts and graphs at perotcharts.com. He's fun.
I say "Impeach Here...Impeach NOW". We need ALL new leaders.
The BEST and most logical solution that's realistic is what Glenn Beck said a couple of days ago and I don't always agree with his radical ranting...but he said "regardless whether you are a democrat or a republican...vote them out of office....EVERYONE...vote a new republican in and a new democrat in and send congress a message we are tired of the old ways"
Lori: You're pretty perceptive... The only one who caught on to the "RepublicRats"...
Gene: Thank you for giving me a new word: "morass"! I thought you might agree with a multi party system.
David: It's always good to fantasize, but the more realistic the dream, the higher the likelihood of it becoming reality. The muti-party system is at least a feasible notion...
Mirela, I like the way you are thinking. That creative mind of yours has all the wheels spinning. Some new third party or fourth parties are probably needed in this country.
Gary, there IS a third party...in fact there are HUNDREDS...that's the problem. There are too many other parties already in existance. We just need another of the existing that can make a difference.
It is particularly difiicult if you don't like either party and are left without any other choices.
