I may be a real estate agent, but I graduated college with a Bachelor's of the Arts Degree with a focus in biology. I studied molecular biology and for a time I worked in a lab for a number of years studying, sequencing and cloning dna. The lab, which was paying for my graduate school, was privatized and went under and so, I decided to switch careers. I didn't want another 8 years of school for a Ph.D. anyhow. Got into real estate. Much more social than working in a lab!
Anyways, I was thinking about Darwin and his theory of evolution and survival of the fittest. That is sort of the way I think about real estate agents right now. There is too much inventory, too few buyers, too many agents and not enough pie. This current economic crisis is going to be the environmental hardship leading to the inevitable extinction of the weaker real estate agents, while the strong agents continue to live on.
According to Darwin, the stronger species would have "traits" leading that species or the stronger individual of that species to survive, while others who lacked the trait might die off. This is how evolution progressed. So think about it. You are going to have to develop some special trait which will keep you alive as a Realtor during this downtime, and let the average agents get sorted.
And what will the outcome be? Eventually, after the weaker agents have been filtered out, we should be left with a stronger species of real estate agents. "Super Agents". We will be stronger, faster, smarter and better equipped to deal with our new economy.
Here's to the Super Agent!
Rebecca, great biology theme. Those that are involved in Active Rain already have traits for the super agent. It is estimated that the agent ranks need to thin from 1.3 million back down to about 700,000. Those are numbers I have heard. I agree the new agents, the survivors will have greatly honed skills.
