
You know to get a physical check up from the doctor once a year, but how often are you getting a check-up on your credit reports?
Thanks to a federal law that went into effect in 2004,each of the 3 major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and Transunion) is required to provide you with one free copy of your credit report per year upon request from a centralized source.
This centralized source includes a Web site, a toll-free telephone number and a postal address. In order to receive your reports, you must initiate the request on one of the following three ways.
Website: www.annualcreditreport.com This is the ONLY official site to help consumers to obtain their free credit report. Be careful if you are using another company that might not be authentic or change you fees.
By Phone: Call 1-877-322-8228 You will go through a simple verification process over the phone.
By Mail: Download the request form Print and complete the form. Mail the completed form to:
