Bob, Every time I read something by you I like you more. I was a huge fan and saw her several times. It's funny but I wrote a post last summer about the album, Cheap Thrills on the day it was released many years ago. Cheap Thrills... I am not advertising this on your blog, I just thought as a fellow Janis Fan it would be something you would enjoy!
Hi Bob ... Seems like yesterday and I still listen to her music. I agree with Chris ... one-of-a-kind. I remember seeing her at the Fillmore East in NYC. She was quite a personality. BTW, Russell I still have a R. Crumb T-Shirt, too small now but I would never toss it.
Chris - We have a little old lady who comes to the office occasionally and she drives a Mercedes. I sing that song every time I see her. Oh Lord, Won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz. Two agents in the office claim to never have heard that song before. Can you believe it?
Russell - Cheap Thrills was one of my favs during my hippy years. My years of rebellion ~ Long hair, bell bottoms, and round glasses. What a sight. We should have a deja vu post. LOL.
Marie - You know I thought the same thing when I saw a little blurb about this being the anniversary of her death. I couldn't believe 38 yrs had gone by.

Bob - I think if Janis was still around she would have so much money, why would she be concerned with Social Security. I really enjoyed her talents, she was a legend. Thanks for the reminder.
Robert - I'm not so sure. Yes, she was very talented, but the road she was on was Destruction Ave. Even the most devoted fan gets tired of the nonsense after a while. Such a wasted talent and life.
Nah!!! With all her dough, social insecurity would not be an issue... Golly, has it been 38 years? Golly, time sure flies when you are having fun. We are having fun, right Bob???
Bob - a great singer and a terrible end to a talented but troubled life. In her short time in the limelight she made a tremendous impact. You still see many very young kids doing her music at karaoke (I confess, I have done that a time or fifty). I do think Cheap Thrills was some of her best stuff.
Michael - I just checked and the fun bus got here in 1998. As for social security, we have seen some of them end up on welfare and shelters. Thanks for commenting.
Okay, I know she's been gone longer than I've been alive but she is one of my favorites along with The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Greatful Dead, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles. 65 or not she'd still be a Heartbreaker belting out classics!
Such a long, long time to be gone and a short time to be there.... Box of Rain (the Greatful Dead)
Bob.. Even for the short time she was alive she made an impact that still carries 38 years later. I still enjoy listening to her music. If she was still alive being 65, I think she would have earned the right to collect social security. Thanks for sharing.
Bob, 38 years??? How did the time go so fast!!!?? Whew, I love Janis Joplin too. Had the "Pearl" album until my son found it -- now,he has it along with some by Carole King and James Taylor. He took all my good ones!!!
Judi - Tell me about it. Hopefully, he's putting them on CD's for you. I keep telling myself I need to do that some day. But, then I could just buy the CD's. LOL. Hmmm, now I need to go and search on how to do that, and how much it's going to cost me. LOL.
Bob, I put all my albums, 8 tracks and cassettes on CD's. The collection is unbelievable. I suggest if you have Ipod, another great place to store them.
Judi, I was thinking of Carole King, she is a year older than Janis.
God, I wish I was back in the 60's...well close enough, I just turned 60...lol
Nancy - Thanks for commenting and a belated Happy Birthday to you. I have an ipod, and I have over 4000 songs on it. I probably have 400 albums to add to that. It's a 60 gig so it will hold them. How did you do your albums?
Nancy & Bob, I think it was "Tapestry" by Carole King that I had. Bob, No, I doubt that he's putting them on cd's for me. I should ask him to do that though. Although, maybe I should just check to see about buying the cd's myself or put them on my Christmas list. I don't have an Ipod -- should put that on my list too.
Judi - "Tapestry" Whoa! I bought that album when I was in Vietnam. I still have it, and I played it on the old turntable about 3 yrs ago. Not too many scratches in it. LOL. An Ipod for Christmas would be nice. Good luck.
I don't think she'd be collecting social security. She'd still be wailing out tunes. One thing I doubt she'd be doing is playing at Caesar's Palace. Just couldn't imagine that.

That's a great pic of her...what a voice - that was a woman who truly understood the blues. RIP. Thanks for the reminder.
