15,000 Chowderheads picked the winners Sunday in 20th Annual Chowderfest on Long Beach Island, NJ.

And the winners are:

New England Clan Chowder

· Grand Prize: California Grill, Long Beach Township

· First Runner Up: Country Kettle Chowda, Beach Haven

· Second Runner Up: Howard’s Seafood Restaurant, LBT

· Third Runner Up: Mud City Crab House, Manahawkin

Manhattan Clam Chowder

· Grand Prize: Stefano’s Seafood, Brant Beach

· First Runner Up: Bistro 14, Beach Haven

· Second Runner Up: Greenhouse Café, Ship Bottom

· Third Runner Up: Sweet Jenny’s, Barnegat

These were judged best by those in attendance. A panel of eight critics, however, gave Panzone’s Pizza and Pasta the Critics’ Choice Award for New England Clam and Stefano’s Seafood won the Critics’ Choice for its Manhattan Clam Chowder.

Plans are already underway for the 2009 Chowderfest, but tickets won’t be available til next summer. Plan ahead!

Soon, all the traffic lights on the Island will switch to blinkers, and we’ll hunker down til next spring. It was a great send off to Summer, 2008!

Morning Laura,

I had no idea the event would be so well attended. Great turn out for the event, speaks well for the community.

Your closing comment reminds me of our Summers in Lake George, NY. No need for traffic signals after Labor Day.
