Our topic this week is "Writing Quality Content."

Rather than re-invent the wheel, I thought I would start off the discussion with some required reading of a few past articles on the subject:

Two of my favorites, Mary McKnight of RSS Pieces, and Jim Cronin of the Real Estate Tomato, offer really excellent and practical insights into the "How to's" of quality blog article writing.

Rich,

Thanks! I will get right on this "homework" assignment.  Do you want us to keep our list to ourselves for now or post them?

Ok I am off to do some reading too. Might have to print them out and take to the gym like I did over the weekend. That worked out well! ;0)

1.  Headliners...This is extremely improtant as your readers will see this first, needs to reach out and grab them.

2.  Short Writing...You dont want to write 1,000 + words, when most people reading are doing so in between other activites, you want your blogs to be roughly 500 words or less.  If you do have a longer blog, do an extended break...read more.

3.  Content...needs to be interesting to those you want to attract and well researched.  Quality will bring people back, not quantity.

4.  Be Consistent... Your readers are looking for continuous articles.  Whether you post daily, weekly, etc, you need to be consistent.  Your readers will cehck back the more you write.

5.  Personalization...When you write, it needs to be personalized.  Dont write dry blogs, you need to put yourself into the article and ask for feedback.  When people can relate to you, they tend to visit more.

6.  Linking...Link to your research, link to other article of interest to what your writing about. The more links, the more information, the more irrestible your blog is.

7.  Graphics... Just like listings, if you have photos people will look, if you don't your toast!  LOL  People want to be able to see something they can relate to.

8.  Knowledge Of Area...Example, I am writing about our county. It is a must to know as much as possible.  I will do this through, CIty Council Meetings Minutes (found online), newspapers, online articles, working with local business owners, and citizens.

9.  Keywords...Using keys words is essential.  If you use them, they need to appear in your content as often as possible, but not obviously planted in your article.

10.  Have Fun... When blogging keep in mind that people are learning more about you than you might think. As long as your enjoying what your doing, the readers will sense that.  Dont go out of your comfort zone on writing and write things that your not sure about.  Write, enjoy and reap the benefits.

Ok, 10 was my own.
