Several months ago, Seth Godin started a new social network called Triiibes. He used the social network of Ning.com.
Becoming a member of Triiibes was by invitation only, and in order to get in you had to purchase an advanced copy of Seth's new book Tribes. Since I love Seth, have read all his books and follow his blog, there was no problem in doing this.
There are 3,637 members of Triiibes from every industry imaginable. Yesterday my book arrived and in it was a note; this was a FREE copy, not the one I bought. Seth told us to read it and then when the copy we purchased comes, to give it away. Wow, viral marketing at its best.
In Seth's book The Purple Cow, Seth talks about being remarkable, doing something different, standing out in the crowd.
Seth sending out his new book Tribes and then asking us to pass on the book we bought is remarkable in my opinion. Starting a social network, invitation only at first, prior to the book is also remarkable. Seth is pretty darn remarkable.
Here is an excerpt from the cover:
A tribe is any group of people, large or small, who are connected to one another, a leader and an idea. For millions of years, humans have joined tribes, be they religious, ethnic, political, or even music. It is our nature.
Now the internet has eliminated the barriers of geography, cost and time. All those blogs and social networking sites are helping existing tribes get bigger and enabling new tribes to be born-groups of ten or ten million who care about iphones, or political campaigns, or a new way to fight global warming.
"Who is going to lead those tribes? "Asks Seth.
That is the essence of the book.
Tribes is a book that will challenge our thinking about being a leader, or a follower. It is about having faith in yourself that you can make a difference. One person in our industry can make a difference. The only thing holding us back is fear.
Are we an Activerain tribe?
Yes, I do believe we are and it is one tribe I am excited to belong to. Jon is the leader of this tribe, but within it many of you have sub-tribes, you lead a group, monitor the group, and grow your group. We go there to find likeminded people who share your ideas, gain information, and become a part of that smaller tribe.
The world is looking for leaders.
Why not you?
Why not me?
The book Tribes will be released on October 16th and you can pre-order on Amazon.
I'm re-reading all of Seth's books now. I needed a little boost to get my brain out of the rut and it is working.
