triiibes logoSeveral months ago, Seth Godin started a new social network called Triiibes. He used the social network of Ning.com.

Tribes book cover by Seth GodinBecoming a member of Triiibes was by invitation only, and in order to get in you had to purchase an advanced copy of Seth's new book Tribes.  Since I love Seth, have read all his books and follow his blog, there was no problem in doing this.

There are 3,637 members of Triiibes from every industry imaginable. Yesterday my book arrived and in it was a note; this was a FREE copy, not the one I bought. Seth told us to read it and then when the copy we purchased comes, to give it away.  Wow, viral marketing at its best.

In Seth's book The Purple Cow, Seth talks about being remarkable, doing something different, standing out in the crowd.

Seth sending out his new book Tribes and then asking us to pass on the book we bought is remarkable in my opinion. Starting a social network, invitation only at first, prior to the book is also remarkable. Seth is pretty darn remarkable.

Here is an excerpt from the cover:

A tribe is any group of people, large or small, who are connected to one another, a leader and an idea. For millions of years, humans have joined tribes, be they religious, ethnic, political, or even music. It is our nature.

Now the internet has eliminated the barriers of geography, cost and time. All those blogs and social networking sites are helping existing tribes get bigger and enabling new tribes to be born-groups of ten or ten million who care about iphones, or political campaigns, or a new way to fight global warming.

"Who is going to lead those tribes? "Asks Seth.

That is the essence of the book.

Tribes is a book that will challenge our thinking about being a leader, or a follower.  It is about having faith in yourself that you can make a difference.  One person in our industry can make a difference. The only thing holding us back is fear.

Are we an Activerain tribe?

Yes, I do believe we are and it is one tribe I am excited to belong to.  Jon is the leader of this tribe, but within it many of you have sub-tribes, you lead a group, monitor the group, and grow your group.  We go there to find likeminded people who share your ideas, gain information, and become a part of that smaller tribe.

The world is looking for leaders.

Why not you?

Why not me?

The book Tribes will be released on October 16th and you can pre-order on Amazon.

Missy,  Seth is remarkable..and those in the marketing field will go so far as saying he is a God!, I don't promote false idols but he is very sharp and all that read his work will take something away from it, leader or follower both will benefit.

Missy you are absolutely right! Why NOT you?  Why NOT me? Poetic words if ever there were any spoken.  I tell my sons (ages 13 and 10) to always be the leader, not the follower.  Why? Because leaders are the ones who make the paths for others to walk through. Those who take advantage of social networking sites such as Active Rain, Twitter, and others, to build their businesses are definitely leaders. I look forward to working together to pave roads for others to follow!

Missy Seth is always interesting to read. I have not read many of his books but always seem to read reviews on his books and I do read his articles. I guess I need to get out there and actually read what the man has written. In this world we need to all revisit our thoughts and ideas and make sure we are doing everything we can to be the best at what we do. Seth seems to have some brilliant ideas on how to stand out in the crowd.

Best,

Scott

Missy, I subscribe to Seth's daily blog via email - always a salient point. Definitely need to read his book.

I totally agree we are a 'tribe' here on AR and it's great to be connected with so many superior realtors from all around the country. This tops training any company could do on its own. It's really exponential here isn't it?

I am going to buy his book - I always think of the internet as sort of like the wild west - only this space is endless and unimaginable.  I look forward to expanding my view with "Tribes".

Missy, I remember getting the email from Cyndee about Seth's new social network, but the timing was really bad for me. Good luck in your new "Tribe' and please do share some goodies with the rest of the "Rain" tribe. :0)

I'm a member and was reading the cover of my new copy of "Tribes" when I found your post on Twitter.  The words you quoted above have really resonated with me.  It's the fear thing.  Hopefully, as a tribe, we are helping each other get through our days.  I'm looking forward to the inspiration -- I know it is there.

Missy...... he does sound remarkable and smart...  very good at marketing... but another networking group?  Did you do something and not tell us?  Like, duplicate yourself, sell your soul to the devil and had 3 of you made?  lol   Or, better yet, does your week consist of 8 days a week and 36 hour days?

Very interesting thoughts.  One thing Seth has is the Trust he has in people.  The fact that he sends a book before you receive the one your ordered and trust that you will give this away when the new one comes in an act of trust and for that matter, bravity, in this society.
