We are all guilty of it. Those powerless, ineffective emails that litter the digital landscape and fill our email sent folders. It's a common malady in every industry what with our casual use of email communication. It’s gotten to the point everyone considers the medium of email like text messaging and instant messages.

Lackadaisical Emails

Too often our emails go out filled with spelling errors, lack of capitalization, poor or no punctuation and cryptic abbreviations. Remember, emails are permanent digital opportunities to confidently demonstrate your value to you potential prospect or client. To send out emails in this manner is a wasted opportunity. Consider this, a consumer has taken a bold step to communicate with you and provide their "treasured" name and email address (and if you’re fortunate - a phone number too). In your response you begin your email with "I appreciate you ...." and conclude your email with, “I look forward to hearing from you soon.” Surely we can do better than that!

People Judge Us By Our Communication Skills

We live in a cold, cruel world and people judge us by the words we choose - yes even in our emails. Think of your follow up email like your resume "cover letter". In fact, that’s what you are really doing - you are interviewing for a job, to be their agent! I’m convinced we miss opportunities by using tired, lifeless, ineffective phrases in our email correspondence (and in letters too).

Be Positive and Take Control!

Are you ready to come across more positive and in control? If so, take a look at these 5 ineffective email phrases and be ready to omit them from your correspondence. Go to the Dakno Real Estate Marketing Blog NOW!

Bobby, good information and I read the link attached. I think everything we write should have a "call to action" and creative as well.

Hi Sharon - Excellent! A strong call to action is a terrific point and it's a must if we expect our consumers to select us for our expertise!

Great information and you are right on the money about the useless phrases. They are so easy to use and if we just put a bit of effort into our communication we will be rewarded for our efforts.  Thank you for sharing the post and the link to your blog. The article was excellent.

Best,

Scott

Amanda - Being straightforward. Now that's a novel idea! It can be accomplished without being caustic and arogant. Excellent comment.

Bobby,  I have a bad habbit of doing (spelling errors, lack of capitalization, poor or no punctuation).  I'm working on it.

One of the worst things I do is im or Im rather than I'm!  Thanks for the tips!

People clearly judge us by our e-mail communication skills. It is always important to double check your spelling and punctuation. I have to admit that I judge other people by the way they write and speak.

I would agree with the content of the blog.  I signed up for the blog because it sounds interesting how I can change the way I commuicate. What I need to figure out is how to comuincate and priortize my communications.  In some ways the internet has made us take things for granted that were not taken for granted in the past.  Also the number of inquires has effected how we correspond.

Hello Keith - You offer some interesting comments. Has the Internet changed the way we communicate? Possibly. I also think we have formed bad habits from other mediums and carried them over to our email communications.

Hello Michelle - The purpose of the post was to alert my fellow real estate professionals how important it is to write emails with a purpose and be confident and in control. Please don't let this post intimidate you.

Great post -- I do everything I can to avoid the 'common pitfalls', but I know I'm still guilty on several counts (especially the "I" word).  My goal is to always close with a follow-up plan.  I "looked forward" to hearing from my web leads during my first year in the business and it just doesn't work that way.

Bobby!  This is a great subject you introduced!

I like the straightforwardness idea.  I have one local agent that has called me about trying to list her family members because, "just because I have never done it doesn't mean I can't learn".  What kind of confidence does that bring to mind?  Go out and learn the skill that your family is looking for, then perhaps they will call you to be their agent!

You are right- words and how we use them are powerful tools and weapons. We have to be thoughtful in how we communicate with clients and peers...It makes the world of difference.

Hi Donna - Your very welcome! Here is my point, until we begin to use email in a professional manner (not IM on steriods), we will have a difficult time using the tool for its maximum benefit.

Amber - You gotta love it! That means taking full advantage of your opportunities to demonstrate "value" and passion with your emails. Wise use of email is like the support system to a bridge that connects real estate agents to their prospects. Without it, the connection collapses.

Bobby I agree with your post about "useless" and "ineffective" phrases of communication that realtors use all the time without positive results. I'm just wondering if you use Twitter or what you may think about using Twitter for real estate which I see as more internet nonsense!
