I'm a legitimate company...I registered my Fictitious Business, paid my city tax, and paid for a business line for the phone.  But that was when I had a "real" office.  For the past six months I have had my work line in my own house, but for what I have no idea.

The phone rings a few times a day....and it's always telemarketers.

  • Hello, this is Tim.how're you doing?
  • Fine and you.
  • Just fine, thanks for asking. Have you heard of......(and this is where the pitch comes in).

Not an hour later the phone rings again, and another one calls.  I have had the same "This is your last chance"car Warranty people calling me for a year now........a whole year for my last chance LOL :).....

I'm tired of getting up from eating my bon-bons while watching soap operas to answer these calls :) I think I'll just get rid of that line, and keep the main number :)

After all if the telemarketers want to find me, they will no matter what number I use.

The most irksome thing about the callers is that they are calling on my 800#.  Ugh!!!

I hate when they call after 7pm and before 9am. Sometimes I am real bad...I just pick up and hang up.

Kathy, I started off with a pager, 800 number, house phone, and a Cell Phone.  Just to many places to retrieve voice messages from.  I have narrowed that down, and will narrow it down again on my next set of business cards to just my Cell Phone and Fax number.  My Cell Phone is on all the time and it is just one place to get my voice messages from.

And as far as telemarketers go, I got a phone call last week at 9:40 PM, YEP no typo 9:40 PM.

Kathy - Usually, I have a field day with them.  However when I first started I knew nobody and was dying for my phone to ring.  I remember the first few calls I had on my office phone were from lead generation companies... talk about a downer.

And if George is getting a call at 9:40 PM, isn't that against the 'rules'.  While I know they have a job to do, as do we all, they can be some of the more annoying creatures on the planet.

And who are you, Peg Bundy:-)

I know so many folks who are just dropping their land line phones. I've been sitting around eating bon bon's and watching soaps too. Cheers...............

Kathy, For year (and years) I kept a separate business line in the house....until about two years ago.  It didn't make any sense to keep it because when I'm home I answer the phone no matter who it is :)  As for the telemarkers, I remind them I'm on the Do Not Call list (it doesn't stop them :(

Kathy - I used to tease my wife about bon bons and soaps.  I've never had a bon bon and wouldn't know one if I saw it.  As for the line, I'm with you.  Dump it until you have your office back.  Good Luck.

Kathy, I had to laugh out loud.  I just wrote a letter to my bank, asking them to take the time to READ the notes on my account, where I've asked a MILLION times, not to have marketing calls placed to my home or my business.  Now we have a National Do Not Call List, and it seems I'm getting more calls this month (when they are supposed to stop), than I have in the last year.

I'm not usually eating bon bons when the calls come, but I could start... :)

Active Rains Proxy Server just ate all my responses and my Bon Bons are melting ......I'll be back later after my "Grrrrrrrr #%#%#%"  turns into a soft whimper LOL :)

Lenn- And they don't care, that's the best part, a whole industry of people that don't care about any of us :)

Gail-Here ya go.....and can you turn the volume up, dang phones ringing again :)

Moni-Maybe we can make a jingle out of "pick up and hang up "  we can call it the Telemarketers Response song LOL :)

George-I am with you..I have done that route, and am now thinking of just having 2 numbers.  The people that have the old one hopefully stil have my cell #.  Ans as for your errant telemarketer that called at 9:40 PM....did you have some choice words for them LOL :)

Jason-Yes calling someone after 9 is against the rules....but we all know not everyone plays by the rules, we have those "special" people LOL :)

Missy-Cheers to you too.....and sometimes it's quite refreshing to be free of the landline :)

Carole-A "Do not call list" yea right.....I  am not so sure they read the list :)

Bob- Dumping the line sounds fine with me....so next time you come to CA remember to call my cell :)

Sylvie-We could all eat Bon Bons...they sure are a better taste than those annoying calls.  And I laughed at your comment......you mean you expect these guys to READ their own notes before calling LOL....that would be the day :)

Kathy, your comment made me laugh out loud :)
Of course I expect them to READ before they call.
I called them today and pretended to be a marketer.  (She was PISSED LOL)

I asked her to read the notes on my account.  She said to me: "It says DO NOT SOLICIT. DO NOT PLACE MARKETING CALLS. Client has asked us NOT to solicit on several occasions."
I asked if any of her marketers knew how to read.
Not 10 minutes after I got off the phone with her, someone else called, telling me I had a GIC coming due next week  - if I wanted to re-invest.  LOL

I asked her for her home number, and told her I'd call her back at dinner time. She didn't get it. :/

Kathy, I just have my one cell phone now. We have cut off our home phone line because of the same problems you are having.

Sylvie- Thanks for the smile my friend......i'm afraid we already know that we are spinning our whells against these guys (and gals......telemarketing is an equal opportunity annoyance :)

Vickie- Now if we could just keep them off our cells we'd have it made :)

I have a house phone, and its strictly for calling family, as sometimes my reception on my cell is not so great, actually, I am probably losing some of my hearing, just don't want to admit it, so I have been told, but business I only give out my cell phone.

Sounds like a plan to me! But ya know...you could hide under a boulder, and the telemarketers would still find a way to call you. :-) GBU!

You can't escape the telemarketers...3 things certain - death, taxes, and telemarketers finding you!

Hi Kathy,

I have one line and that's my cell..I have an efax that's it...it does get annoying but I just grill them before they can grill me...I start acting like I'm a crazy person and that scares them off.

Kathy, for a land line, there is some kind of gadget you can buy that zaps any calls made dialed by a computer.  Doesn't work on a cell phone, though.  When they call me, I like to lead them on and mess with their minds.

So much for the "Do not call" list. I get calls all the time on every phone.

Kathy - I usually can tell by my caller ID if this is a telemarketer, but sometimes they catch me on the phone and I just hang up before they have a chance to speak.

Put those bons-bons down immediately and give me ten!! (push-ups).   LOL!

Paul-Well as bad as it sounds if you lose some of your hearing you won't have to worry about the telemarketers :)  But then again you can't hear your clients either :)

Elizabeth isn't that the truth....and I just love how they're all nice and sweet until you don't want what they have to sell....that's for the live ones...the robots are another story :)

Sally&David- A ringing Business Line that's actually business sounds good, no matter what ring tone :)

Sally- Yea, wonder if we can charge THEM for our minutes they waste LOL :)

Gary- Say it ain't so :)

Neal- Too funny....and if they were legitimate, do they run off too :) :)

Patricia- A gadget huh....I'll look into that:)

Ellie- I was thinking the same thing....unless we want to spend our time documenting, I think the penalties of the Do Not Call are more of a pain to us.

Petra- I think half of the calls I receive from everyone says Blocked ID....so this wouldn't work for me.  And that's only on my cell anyway.  I like the idea of that gadget Patricia mentioned.

Cynthia- No Bon-Bons....LOL :)  Oh and those push-up days are gone my friend.....with or without the Bon-Bons :)
