Anona - Wonderful post.   Gotta love that quote from Churchill.  This also reminds me of the old Spanish Proverb, "If your house is on fire, warm yourself by it."

Hi Anona

There is no question that we are in a challenging cycle, it's a time that we have to maintain a positive mental attitude, work hard and stay focused on our goals.

Good luck and success

Its true and I maintain that attitude at all times when dealing with my clients. They love the optimism and if you act like a winner, then you truly become one too.

You are correct Gotta love that aquote that Churchhill stated, but what about that statement last night, eve other word was my friends,  sOMEWHERE IN HISTORY WE WILL HERE THAT AGain. thanks Patt

Thank you for posting this!  I like to stay positive and surround myself with positive people, but it's always helpful to have it repeated when it seems positivity is getting farther and fewer between these days!  As long as we keep on going we have no need to be negative.  Plus, a lot of people will believe what they see and hear, so the more positive words flying around, the better.  Maybe they will knock some of the negative words out of the air. - Jenn

Anona - great points you make. One of the items on my to do list this week was to pull out 5+ year old files to have shredded. What an eye opener this was! Even in other down cycles we had in our local market, I kept chugging along and making a living. I'll keep focusing on THAT and shut off the news, I think.

Anona,

That is good advice. I am not too concerned about this personally. I have stocks, I have real estate and they are both down. Previously they seemed to counterbalance one another. But I am sure that, before long, everything will come rushing back and we will be in better shape than before. After the 9/11 wipe out of the market, who would have thought it would have set new records only a few months back.

So why do they keep saying "my friends"?  Just because we know their face, doesn't define them or us as "friends".

Hey Karen,

These "recessions" happen often.  This may be one of the more challenging economic situations a lot of us have experienced, but at least our rates aren't in the double digits.

Good advice.  Unfortunately, most agents I know have not changed their practices one bit.  They may be very sorry.

or you can "Refuse to participate in a recession."  ...and yes...when you're going through hell...keep going...that's how you get out.  And remember one thing...you're most likely going to go through it again.  My mentor has taught me that it's not what happens that determines your future...it's what you do about what happens!  What happens...happens to everybody.

Happy Selling everyone!!!

Nam,

Good point.  I find when people find that I am an agent, the first question is "So how is the market"? or "I bet your having a hard time in this market".

That is when I get to show my stuff.  Yes, there is a lot wrong with the market, but there is more right.  Rates are great.  Sellers can sell (at least in my market) if priced correctly.

The strong and the positive will survive even flourish!

What a motivating post! I love that quote, it's actually on my list of favorite quotes (yes, I have a list). Persistence is what it's all about. What better time to build up a business or client base than in times like these, because when the market comes back, you'll kill it.

Hi Anona,
I love to read the positive and uplifting post and to Winston's quote I add ---Yes, because who wants to stop and stay there!  I read a quote here on AR some time ago that has stuck with me

"It is what it is

It ain't what it ain't

The only way through it

Is through it

And it'll take as long as it takes"

Anona, it is all about the basics. These are the times to do exactly what you're saying. I was telling my agents to get back in their data base and just call to see if they need anything or have any questions about what's going on. It seems to be working too.

A sane voice in the midst of market hysteria!  You look too young to be so wise, but yes, you are right.  The market is cyclical.  I love your "tough it out" quote!

Anona:

I am very pleased with the positive attitudes that I am seeing here on Active Rain. This is the true measure of success...again it is "the cup is either half empty or half full" philosophy and history has absolutely told us that the market will come back, always has, always will.

Times seem really bad right now, but guess what, there is nowhere to go from the bottom than UP. So heads up everyone, good things will come our way.

Thanks for your positive post Anona.

Realtors and our fellow industry service providers need to keep on being positive!  The key to perception is attitude and the media has a bad one, with positive ideas like yours, the media will have to start reporting some good news.

It all revolves around faith in capitalism.  Forget out our government.  Even if the one candidate wants socialism, it wont happen, as Americans wont let it happen.  Capitalism will thrive even if it means a civil war.  I have the full faith in our people and our economy will come back one way or another this coming year.  It may get bloody, but capitalism will thrive on..........  Believe........
