Take A Hike Into History At Manassas National Battlefield Park

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Executives
There were two Battles of Manassas/Bull Run.  The first was in July 1861 and the second was in August 1862.  Why two names?  The Northerners named battles after nearby bodies of water while the Southerners named them after nearby towns.  In either case, Stonewall Jackson defeated the Union Army decisively at Second Manassas.  It has been strikingly maintained as it was during the Civil War and has outstanding and beautiful hiking trails.  There are gun emplacements, guns , momuments and markers throughout for your enjoyment.  For More Details see Manassas National Battlefield Park

Fifty years after the war Manassas was the site of  the National Peace Jubilee organized by Confederate and Union soldiers.  You can see it at the corner of Grant and Lee Avenues on the grounds of the Old Manassas Courthouse

We've lived in Prince William County and have enjoyed both the cultural activities, historical sites which include two wonderful national parks and the cosmopolitan nature of the community.  All areas of the county have excellent transportation facilities for commuting to  Tysons Corner, Rosslyn, The Pentagon, Alexandria and MCB Quantico  If you are planning a Northern Virginia home purchase Prince William County is one of the locations you should seriously consider.  Contact Karen and Art by Email or call us at 703-690-6569.  Put our  record of customer service, real estate experience and state-of-the-art technology to work for you in Alexandria, Arlington County, Fairfax County, Prince William County, Stafford County or the entire Northern Virginia Area.

Incredible history.  I was out by the Battlefields this morning in Chancellorsville, and Wilderness in Spotsylvania.  It is very sobering to see and walk on such 'hallowed ground!'

Karen-

Manassas is one of my most photographed battlefields in NOVA, as my Dad lives only a few minutes from the Battlefield. The Stone Bridge is one of my favorite photo spots. Thanks for the great post!

Jim,  Most people associate the Civil War with Scarlet O'Hara in Gone With The Wind.  As you and I both know Virginia was one of the main battleground states.  It is very sobering,  Karen

Bryant,  Fall is our favorite time to visit Manassas.  As soon as the leaves turn we'll be out there with our camera - the difference is we don't have your ability,  Karen

I feel blessed whenever I visit one of our battlefield.  Somany laid down their lives for this great country.  It is truly hallowed ground.

Jim,  I agree - we also love to visit Quantico National Cemetery.  It wasn't a battlefield, but it is now home to a lot of heroes,  Karen

One of my conventions when naming battles is to follow the naming tradition of the victor. Thus, there were two Battles of Bull Run and but one Battle of Gettysburg.
